Pending any official threads, I thought it would be nice to have a place to discuss this round of proposals!
I personally found it surprising that there was such tight overlap in the potential price ranges, with the highest of the low range and lowest of the higher range all running $400-600. All proposals are quite thoughtful, and none of the concessions made on the lengthier titles really limit their impressiveness in my opinion.

>1 NathanOv: I feel the same way.
I do wonder whether a second book could be in the oven, too, if one’s chosen that’s likely to take a few years.
Regardless, great proposals all around.

I’ll add that the proposals, along with Griffin’s practical considerations, did slightly change what I thought would be my rankings.

Tough call, isn't it??

>2 Shotcaller: If one of the 2 or 2 year+ titles is elected, I would love to see it put to a vote if we should publish one of the shorter ones in the meantime.

I think even if my proposal for A Hero of My Time isn't selected, I would be happy with any of the proposed works. Fabulous job for sure.

It will be interesting to see if the fleshed out proposals affect the weighting of the vote from the first round. I suspect it will stay roughly the same with a small percentage jumping ship from the top vote to the another one when weighing up cost and time frame. For me, my top vote has stayed the same when considering cost, time, proposal details and personal interest. But I wouldn't be displeased with any of these books and really enjoyed the thought that went into each one.

I'm really excited to see how this shakes out.
I took a glance at the ballot back end and so far, of 15 votes cast, the breakdown of 1st place votes is: 3-3-3-2-2-2

>9 grifgon: Wow, tight race! All proposers should feel some pride that there's is already the favorite of multiple members.

I would like to counter-propose that we set up six offices of Consensus Press in order to produce all the proposals.
Failing that, I feel confident I'll be happy with any that wins, they are all splendid in their second-wave realisations. The contexts that Griffin added made the projects much more understandable in terms of practicality, so thanks for that too.
Interesting that copyrighted titles dominated, though to be fair more than one is a copyrighted translation of an out-of-copyright original.

>11 Shadekeep: Maybe for our third book we can concentrate on public domain works. Maybe alternate back and forth with each new book...public domain...copyright...public domain...copyright. That would encourage an interesting spread, would it not?

>12 Glacierman: I like that. Straw poll?

>12 Glacierman: That would be one way to approach it. Certainly it would level the playing field somewhat, since copywritten works would be competing with their own kind, and voting is less likely to be weighted by concerns of clearance wait times.
The opposing argument might be that some folks much prefer to nominate a specific work regardless of copyright status, and may not want to wait a year before that window comes around again. I agree that the suggestion should be put up for argument and voting however.

Well, that was just an idle thought on my part. If anyone else wants to pursue the matter and run a poll, Будь моим гостем.
