I am definitely in this weekend! Kerry will be out of town until Sunday afternoon so I would like to take advantage of the time.

I will be in again this weekend. I have no plans so hope to get some reading done. And get my cast iron skillet reconditioned so I can use it for Sunday morning breakfast.

I'm in again this weekend. No major outside activities, so I should get a decent amount of reading done. I just finished book 7 of The Expanse Persepolis Rising, so I'm launching in to volume 8 Tiamat's Wrath. Also reading An Unfinished Life by Robert Dallek. May possibly sneak in one of the short stories from Close Range by Annie Proulx.

I'm in. Wicked behind on The Magic Mountain, if I'm to be prepared for Tuesday night's next meeting - Chapter 5 is a lengthy one so our group broke it across 3 meetings. It's good, interesting ... so why do I keep drifting off? It's what's happening to the character, and somehow I've been hypnotized the same way by the author! haha ... but seriously. I must keep up!

I'll also be reading Reading Lolita in Tehran and Victory to Defeat: The British Army 1918–40, and probably various bits of other works. I'm listening to a mystery set near Montreal at the moment as I tackle a little more yardwork. Tomorrow will be unseasonably warm but Sunday we're expecting rain, so I do expect to get some books read! And maybe update my reading list (I'm woefully behind on that as well)...

Very satisfying day all around for me, especially reading-wise. I am not sure when the last time was that I got 4+ hours of reading in on a day. I also walked 6+ miles and did a few things around the house. I should send Kerry out of town more often, lol.

Weekend Startup
Books read from: I finished the entire omnibus edition called Make Way For Lucia by E. F. Benson. All 913 pages of it. My computer book is Sage of Waterloo by Leona Francombe. I am still reading, a page or two at a time of, Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano and started reading Ode To A Banker by Lindsey Davis. I also started Richest Man Who Ever Lived by Greg Steinmetz. I have put on pause, for a week, American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins.

Books finished: Make Way For Lucia by E. F. Benson.

Book Thoughts: I am enjoying the Marcus Didius Falco mystery I am reading. This series is full of snarky humor and wonderful historical tidbits about life in ancient Rome. It is totally making me rethink what I know about life for the common man back then.

Non-Book Activities: I thought I would get my car back tomorrow, but the part has been back-ordered and I won't get it until next weekend.

Reading Time Today: 1 hours
Time Reading this weekend: 1 hours
Time listening:
Time posting:
Food: left over tomato soup and crackers with a fancy smoked gouda on them.

Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 546
Total Time Reading since the Social Distancing read-a-thon began: 1695 hours since I started doing the weekend Read-A-Thon starting in April of 2020.

Weekend Startup
Books read from: My computer book is Sage of Waterloo by Leona Francombe. I am still reading, a page or two at a time of, Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano and am deep into reading another Marcus Didius Falco mystery; Ode To A Banker by Lindsey Davis. I checked out Twenty-One Steps by Jeff Gottsfeld and read it today. I have a good start on Richest Man Who Ever Lived by Greg Steinmetz. I have put on pause, until I get my car back, American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins.

Books finished: Make Way For Lucia by E. F. Benson. Twenty-One Steps: Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by Jeff Gottsfeld

Book Thoughts: I read through Twenty-One Steps. Out loud. In preparation for reading it to the Sunday School tomorrow. This is a great book to read for Veteran's Day. I intend to relate it to service and sacrifice and about the veterans who have been ministers in the church. It should be fun for me. I like to read out-loud to kids.

Non-Book Activities: I spent the afternoon in conversation and coffee with a high school buddy of mine. We talked about all kinds of things and spent a delightful afternoon together. It did cut into my reading time, but there is no substitute for friendship.

Reading Time Today: 1 hours
Time Reading this weekend: 2 hours
Time listening:
Time posting:
Food: apple cake with whipped cream along with some good coffee and fellowship.

Total books finished since the Read-A-Thon Began: 547

Sun night update: 9pm
Books read from: The Magician of Tiger Castle by Louis Sachar, The Club Dumas by Arturo Pérez-Reverte
Books finished: 1 The Magician of Tiger Castle
Snacks: Dinner - Eggplant tagine, macaroni cheese

Non book activities: A little gardening (weeding). Made an eggplant tagine but not the recipe that I was looking for. Also made macaroni cheese but not a baked one with the crusty topping as we were in a hurry. Both dishes tasted great and my son made me a lovely mimosa.
Also a trip to the library to return books and pick up Iosi, the Remorseful Spy, I had started watching the netflix series and decided to read the book instead.

Sunday Report
Books read from: My computer book is Sage of Waterloo by Leona Francombe. I am still reading, a page or two at a time of, Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano and am deep into reading another Marcus Didius Falco mystery; Ode To A Banker by Lindsey Davis. My continuous reading book is now Richest Man Who Ever Lived by Greg Steinmetz. I have put on pause, until I get my car back, American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins.

Books finished: Make Way For Lucia by E. F. Benson. Twenty-One Steps: Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by Jeff Gottsfeld

Book Thoughts: I read Twenty-One Steps to the Sunday School kids this morning. They liked it. Even the adults listened. I watched a program on PBS this afternoon about Bletchley Park and so have moved Code Girls to the top of my bedside table. I simply must get that book read. The women cryptographers of WWII have been turning up in so many places in my life this month that I simply must do more reading about them. I have my Zoom book discussion this afternoon and we will be talking about Feather Thief and deciding on what books to read for next year.

Non-Book Activities: None today. I plan on knitting and watching my PBS shows. Both of them end tonight so I need to watch the finale of each.

Time Reading this weekend: 3 hours

Time posting:
Food: it will be a light eating day. I had soup for lunch and will have grapes, cheese and crackers for supper.

>13 benitastrnad: I also have several of his books. I read The Seville Communion a couple of months ago and enjoyed it. Quite different from my usual reads. Perez-Reverte wrote these all a while back so some of the descriptions, dialogue are not PC. He's an interesting person, worth reading his wikipedia entry. 'He originally refused to have his novels translated from the original Spanish to any language other than French.'
The Club Dumas was adapted to film, Ninth Gate and Johnny Depp was the lead. Anyway you are plunged into the world of antiquarian books, their collectors and the book hunters who do the dirty work of finding particular editions for the client.

Books finished: Make Way For Lucia by E. F. Benson. Twenty-One Steps: Guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by Jeff Gottsfeld

Book Thoughts: We had a great book discussion yesterday of Feather Thief: Beauty, Obsession, and the Natural History Heist of the Century by Kirk Wallace Johnson. The discussion ranged all the way from the burden of carrying environmental guilt to the lack of remorse or guilt displayed by the young thief. This was a great book for a book discussion because it had so many topics that prompted discussion. I enjoyed the 2 hours (that's right - 2 hours) that we talked on Zoom. The group also chose our books for next year and I am excited about the list.

Non-Book Activities: I dug around in a box of knitting patterns to find a knitting pattern I was want. I found it, but I am sure I was not in the right box. It doesn't matter because the fingerless mitt pattern I found is cute. Might not be the same one I used before, but it is cute and that is what counts.

Weekend summary:

Books read from: Tiamat's Wrath by James S.A. Corey, An Unfinished Life by Robert Dallek
Books finished: None
Pages read: 400-ish

I read a bit less than I thought I might. Still, good stuff, no complaints. Watched football, went to church, gave the dog extra walks to take advantage of the relatively dry weather. Autumn in Oregon, gotta take advantage of it when we can.
