I have just come across Nistisima: The secret to delicious Mediterranean vegan food by Georgina Hayden. It is printed (Hardback) to coffee table standard and extremely well written. I prefer it to her earlier book Taverna. The fact that the recipes are vegan should encourage you if your intended recipient is vegetarian, but not discourage you, if they are carnivorous.
Alternatively, just treat yourself.
NB Some reviews on Amazon (1 star) say the recipes are not vegan, but on a quick check they appear to be vegan to me. You may have to substitute Agave or Maple syrup for honey; so I do not understand the adverse reviews.
