Merry December, everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the last month of the year so far. What are you reading this month? I've already finished one book (I was on a plane with nothing else to do): How to Be a Wallflower by Eloisa James. Now I'm in the middle of Best of Luck by Kate Clayborn. Please share what you're reading or planning to read below -- happy reading!

I have An Unusual Boy by Fiona Higgins to finish for book club next week. I'm listening to The Mapping of Love and Death by Jacqueline Winspear as I run around doing errands and I have Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa and One Amazing Thing by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni that I'm reading to catch up for the AlphaKit.

I’m currently reading Something in the Woods Loves You by Jarod Anderson and Strange Beasts of China by Yan Ge for November’s NatureKIT and CoverCAT, respectively. I’m also reading The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin for the BingoDOG. I have two more books after that to finish my card, but I’m far behind on my own personal challenges. Good thing I made unread items from past challenges one of my categories for 2026!

I am reading A Ruff Royal Christmas which seems to be slow going right now. I think it would work better as a screenplay though.

I just finished Pay Dirt Road by Smantha Jayne Allen and I am about to start The Heart in Winter by Kevin Barry. I also am enjoying Tyler's Row by Miss Read.

Currently the books I am reading include The Rise and Fall of Ancient Egypt and The Oxford History of Ancient Egypt. As you can guess, I have an interest in Ancient Egypt. I recently added two absolutely beautiful volumes, Picturesque Egypt By Prof. G. Ebers. They are so beautiful I had to film the unwrapping. I suppose this is one group where these are more likely to be appreciated.

So far in December I’ve read The woman in the purple skirt for ColourCAT and Hey Hafni for CoverCAT.

If I want to finish my BingoDOG card I need to read two more books, I am thinking about The Bone Witch and Gigi by Colette.
Then I’ve Got Hummingbird, Vanishing world, Water Moon and The High house which are mostly recent reads in this group that inspired me.

But if something more compelling shows up, that may change:)

Read "The Mother-in-Law" from The Comedies by Terence, and have picked up from the library The Mummy Case by Elizabeth Peters and Ghost Soldier by Mike Madden for a couple of LT group reads. I think I may turn to another Jacqueline Winspear this month as well; I do love her work.

I've been listening to an audio version of Mick Herron's Clown Town, the latest episode of my favourite series Slow Horses. About 30% into the audiobook I've decided I'd prefer print. There are many holds on the ebook, so it will be a while before I get it.

I've pushed up What Does It Feel Like? by Sophie Kinsella after reading the sad news of the author's death a few days ago.

I just finished The Mistletoe Motive by Chloe Liese, a somewhat disappointing holiday novella, and am now starting Lois McMaster Bujold's The Physicians of Vilnoc.

I am trying to finish out the year by completing all my planned December reads. I have just started Rope's End, Rogue's End by E.C.R. Lorac and Mother Mason by Bess Streeter Aldrich.

I've finished An Unusual Boy by Fiona Higgins and also The Mapping of Love and Death by Jacqueline Winspear. I still working on 2 books I was reading at the beginning of the month. They're both just ok so I don't really care how long it takes me. So I think I'm going to start Mussel Feast by Birgit Vanderbeke and I need to look for another audio book.

I’m listening to The Lions’ Den by Iris Mwanza. I picked this up for my “African authors” category without knowing much about it, and it’s very good: a legal procedural about a murdered gay boy with lots to say about Zambia a few decades into the era of President Kuanda.

I’m also reading Walden for the NatureKit, with little hope to finish it before the end of the year, and The Girl from Rawblood by Catriona Ward for the ScaredyKit, which I might finish.

I have two other KIT/CAT books that I haven’t yet started, plus a bunch of others that I hoped to get to before the end of the year for other personal categories. Plus I just received an Early Reviewers book, and I like to read those as soon as I can.

PLUS I just found out that my local library is dropping Hoopla at the end of the year, and there are at least two titles that aren’t available on Libby or in print at the local library or the university library that I’d like to get to before Hoopla goes away.

So I should get off LT and go read some books!

I couldn’t sleep because of high winds and kitties during the night, so I read A Child’s Christmas in Wales.

I am reading a couple of seasonal stories with A Christmas to Remember by Jenny Hale and A Season of Gifts by Richard Peck . I always think of December as ending on Chistmas Day but we still have a week after that so now I need to check my list and see what else I can get to before the year ends.

I finished both The Mummy Case and Ghost Soldier and am now reading Lily of the Tower by Elizabeth Hart for this month's CultureCAT.
