barcode alternative for pamphlets

Our library ordered the printed barcodes and have been using them for our books. It's lovely how when we add each book the next in the sequence of barcodes is automatically assigned to the book and we affix the printed barcode.
I'd like to add pamphlets to the library and I'd like to have the same process but not affix a physical barcode. That is, I'd like to start the pamphlets at a specific number beyond what we will use for books, say 4,000 and while I'm entering brochures have them be in sequence i.e. 4001, 4002, etc. We won't be using a scanner to check pamphlets out but they need their own unique and easy way to check in and out.
Is this possible? It would involved resetting the "last" barcode during the entering of the pamphlets and then returning the sequence to where we left off with the last book.
We may actually never use a scanner for the books though it's valuable for them to have a unique number but since we started that way I think we'll keep on for the books.
Any ideas? Thanks.

>1 SantaCruzFriends: Hi there! Great points all, and yes it's totally possible. You don't need a barcode sticker on the pamphlets, although it might be helpful to pencil the number in somewhere if you want to be able to match the number between the physical item and the computer. I agree though, barcode numbers are useful whether or not you're using a scanner.

You can type in barcode numbers or names of pamphlets/books in TinyCat to start a transaction for them without using a scanner.

I think you're right about the sequencing process, but it may be easier to just type the pamphlet barcodes in manually after you've added barcodes to your books. You could also switch your barcode suggester's settings (here: https://www.librarything.com/settings/barcodes) to suggest the lowest free barcode, after cataloging your pamphlets, to fill in the gap between your books and pamphlets. It's worth playing around with it! Let me know if you run into any issues, I'll be happy to help.
