A touchstone generally links to the top result from the search, which may not be the work you want. Plus, touchstones get broken over time as various things change on those works. It would be very surprising if a list of several touchstones from 2008 were all still working as intended.
If you wanted, you could copy the original message into a new one and put in correct touchstones that work now.

In addition to what @MarthaJeanne said, you'll often see "(others)" under the title that comes up. If you click on that, you'll get a list of works to choose from and can generally find the one you want.
