Can anyone recommend a couple of good books on the topic of balanced literacy? Trying to get up to speed on it over the summer....

Thanks!

I can't recommend anything but there's certainly a lot on Amazon about it!

Try "the guide to effective instruction in Reading" its a good place to start and you can download it for free. Lots of good info and blackline masters. Also check out eworkshop. They have lots of great stuff and videos too.

Anything by Fountas and Pinnell...I have quite a few of their books from when I taught in public school. They sort of pioneered "Balanced Literacy" and my school was transitionaing over at the time so we got a LOT of their books. I also purchased their most recent book for using Balanced Literacy in Preschool...fabulous!! Hope this helps ;)
