Any thoughts on Jennifer’s back story? Was it right for her daughter to be placed in permanent care?

Her daughter definitely needed to be placed in a safe home. Jennifer was an abuser. This is also where we get our first clue that abuse might be involved.

Jennifer was a drug addict and a prostitute definitely not a great mix for a daughter to live with her.

Have to agree with >2 Olivermagnus: and >3 EadieB:. Now we have a killer and an abuser.

At this point I couldn’t see where Jennifer’s backstory might be fitting into the plot of the story. As for her child being placed in permanent care, this was probably better than being passed from pillar to post between foster carers or state facilities for the rest of her childhood. It’s a pity Tabatha had no respectable family who could take her in, or that the foster parents turned Tabatha against her mother - that was definitely wrong.

Definitely needed to be in care, possibly a secure long term foster carer. Jennifer’s story is one of the many sad ones in our society where failed by the system.
