Just wanted to praise the Green Hand—my favorite bookstore in Portland. The owner, Michelle, is really the only bookseller or librarian whose recommendations I solicit and take. She's got a unique sensibility and interests, and it gives her store character. She's the best.
On a more brass tacks level, it's notable that her books are cleaner than used books from some other Portland stores. I've watched her clean them off, and, notably, she doesn't leave the door open to the sidewalk and street. It'd be inviting, but Yes Books does it, and the place is just kinda grimy.
