It is a nightmare if cleaning people suddenly decide to dust, clean, and rearrange books on bookshelves, but this is exactly what happened to me a week ago. Though they knew not to touch my books, the cleaning service went "above and beyond" in their diligence when I was not at home -- my wife was there, but she was busy with other things, and when I returned home and looked at some of bookcases, I had a severe shock.
Has such thing ever happen to you?
Needless to say, my cleaning people are now fired.

Yes. It’s not that they disrupted the books but on my bookshelves I have a lot of doodads and knickknacks that they kept breaking. Grr. Nothing valuable but souvenirs from places I’ll never be again. Sometimes they would try to hide the things they had broken by throwing them in the trash and not mentioning it. Needless to say I have a new crew. If you can’t dust without being slapdash and careless, then don’t do it.

Some of my books are too fragile to be touched by cleaning people, so your suggestion, though good, would be a punishment to me and my books. :)

We have had things like this happen, too. I am sorry to hear about your bad experience! It is very unpleasant.
