Not sure if this is a bug or a feature?
Some of my books are showing a Description when viewed in TinyCat, viz:
https://www.librarycat.org/lib/bnielsen/item/218993506
...
Description:
Naturvidenskabens storste erkendelser og opdagelser har vAeret med til at skabe vores moderne verdensbillede og forstaelse af naturen.
...
Alas this is mangled Danish. storste should be største, vAeret should be været, etc
I wondered if this was happening to other Descriptions, so I tried to search for
vAeret med til at skabe vores
but that finds some other of my books, but not 218993506.
So it seems I've come across two weird things:
1. I can't seem to search for anything in Description
2. Searching in TinyCat will search for "været" if I tell it to search for "vAeret".
But as I said, I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature?

>1 bnielsen: Thanks for being patient with me! Sorry for my delayed response. So that description is coming to TinyCat from LibraryThing. You can downvote that bad description, but I'm not aware of any way to replace or correct LibraryThing descriptions themselves. In TinyCat, you can replace them with your own, but it pulls from the Summary field — which I see you already use for other information. Alas, maybe you can help me convince @timspalding to adjust the current description management system. ;)
To answer your questions:
1. Descriptions aren't a searchable field in TinyCat right now, and I do feel this is for the best. There are so many things that can be pinged in a long description that aren't really relevant to a search for those terms.
2. Correct, it should include both—and LibraryThing search does too. For example, if someone were searching the title "Aeneid," we would want results to populate for "Aeneid" and "Æneid" to cover all the bases. I understand this isn't ideal for Danish, but for many keyboards it is a helpful feature.
You can see searchable fields for your TinyCat here: https://www.librarycat.org/admin/settings/search. Would you have any books that have "vAeret" in a searchable field which aren't showing up when you search for them?
It may be helpful with similar situations to see if the search functions identically under Your Books in LibraryThing and in TinyCat search.

>2 ZephCraven: No problem. I just reported some observations.I keep the Descriptions in TinyCat because they often add some information about the book that I wouldn't get otherwise. After I discovered the "vAeret" weirdness I just wanted to see how many there were and Search wasn't helpful :-)
I have lots of searches for typos and such that doesn't work with LT's Search, so I just do it offline with a copy of the TSV export file.
The descriptions in TinyCat are not exportable, so that's not an option here. But then I can't really do anything about the Descriptions in TinyCat, so maybe I should just stop the quest here.
ETA I've scrabed the pages quite slowly to not trigger any bot protection and the result showed about 35 Descriptions with the "vAeret" weirdness, so I can easily live with thah. A handful of others have another issue:
https://www.librarycat.org/lib/bnielsen/item/122583856
where "et n?dvendigt vrkt?j" should have been "et nødvendigt værktøj"
With the new description management system that Tim will surely construct after seeing this, it should be possible to downvote or exclude that kind of mangled descriptions. :-)
ETA so the problems affect about 40 out of 5900 books with descriptions in TinyCat. I.e. less than one percent, so not really a problem.

>3 bnielsen: Yes, and to be possibly redundant those descriptions are coming to TinyCat via LibraryThing where they should be (a) identical to what you see in TinyCat and (b) absolutely something you can downvote! If you see a bad description like that, go ahead and hit the downvote button here: https://www.librarything.com/work/16635996/descriptions
While one can override descriptions in TinyCat using the Summary field, it's high on my LibraryThing wishlist to allow a higher level of control over descriptions. We'll see what makes sense when we get to it!

>4 ZephCraven: Problem with the three descriptions for that book is that one of them is for another book (Kort f?r den tyske genforening i 1990 blev det afsl©?ret, at den ©?sttyske sikkerhedstjeneste, Stasi, siden 1980...). The current (Mange videnskabelige discipliner sa vel som mange ?konomisk-politiske diskussioner ...) is okay, but with character set issues. And the third (Denne bog er beregnet til et syv-ugers introducerende kursus i statistik. Kurset bestar af forelAesninger og ovelser...) is fairly okay and also have character set issues.
It seems that the current description is the best available. Even though it seems to be cut off in the middle of a word. So downvoting won't h©lp me :-)

I don't think it is worthy of a bug report, so I'll see if I can list some of oddities in Descriptions. Maybe Zeph can use it as ammunition?
