Lost pages from one of the most important early New Testament manuscripts: Codex H have been recovered. An international team of academics at the University of Glasgow are using multispectral imaging and carbon dating to digitally reconstruct the text.
Codex H is a sixth-century copy of the Letters of St Paul. It was lost to history when it was disassembled and repurposed at the Great Lavra Monastery on Mount Athos, Greece, in the 13th century. It was re-inked, some pages scraped clean and re-used for other texts and other leaves repurposed as binding material and flyleaves for other manuscripts. Today, the surviving fragments are scattered across libraries in Italy, Greece, Russia, Ukraine, and France.
