I have started entering my books and want to identify topics, such as French language, Holocaust. I have set these topics up in Collections, but I can't retrieve a list.

It looks to me as if they are working. Go to Your Books. In the uppwe left hand corner there is a drop down where you can chose which collection you want to see.

I would note that, unless you have few topics to keep track of, tags are a much better for this purpose. Collections get unwieldy above a dozen already, let alone hundreds. Tags are not and you can also get that subset easily

>3 SandraArdnas: Yes, for many purposes, tags work better. Collections have gotten better since they were first introduced, and I'm up to 23 without major difficulties, but maybe that is because I rarely change them any more.

Collections have varied purposes
eg
read/not read/to be read/culled collections
fred's collection v mary's collection
books i have/read but do not have, wishlist/lent to thomas collections etc
books in the basement v books in the study collections
books i have read in 2026, 2025, 2024...
major genres e.g. historical, fiction, sport, hobbies, mind body spirit...
my dvds.....
whilst tags breakdown a book by type
in general, when you sort/filter your books,
sort first by collection
then by tag
cookbooks are the best example of using tags to subdivide a collection
If you checkout my organisation, it might give you some ideas

Somer people have very few collections e.g. just 4
and
some people have very few tags e.g. none
Collections are useful in creating a "working set" for power edit changes
And fiinaly, with LT you can always change your mind ....

>5 JonathonL88: HI, What view do you use that shows both collections and tags? Thanks!

Click Settings to the right of the views selector and you can edit a view of your choice to have both.
Tags is under Basic and Collections is under Personal.
