Title Sort Order Issue

I'm new to LibraryThing (made an account a few months ago and have been working myself up to Actually Adding Things), so I hope this isn't the wrong place to be asking, but:

I'm currently going through and adding my (many) manga to my LT catalog. My hope is to be able to keep it up to date and use the app to check my collection when I'm out shopping. Through some googling and research in other FAQ posts here, I've seen that the "title" sort is alphanumeric, and so I need to edit the titles to have the same number of digits (i.e. 01 and 10, rather than 1 and 10) if I want them to sort properly, which is time consuming but ultimately doable.

However, even having done this, one of the volumes I've added doesn't wind up in the correct order. My 魔男のイチ volumes (read as "Madan no Ichi" or "Ichi the Witch" in English) wind up in the order 1, 2, 6, 3, 4, 5 no matter how much I futz with the numbering. (They're also, when viewed among my other series, separated from each other.)

I know that I can add tags and use tag sort on the computer to force the correct order, but since I would like to be able to use the app when I'm out and about to check what volumes I'm missing from a given series, it would be a lot more helpful if I could get them to arrange by title. If it's just the one series I can deal with it (even if it would be frustrating), but I'm worried that as I add more series the problem will arise elsewhere as well.

I tried changing the titles to English as well, in case it was just a complication from the site not handling kanji well, but that didn't put them into the correct order either.

Am I missing something? Does anyone have any tips for how to edit the titles so that they arrange in the correct order?

Examples are always useful:

show the books, you are talking about? I think it looks like there is an extra space in some of the numbers? i.e. 02 versus 0 6
Maybe other things like that? If you want to sort by this you have to be super careful to enter the titles the same way each time.

If you want to get a second opinion on the sorting you can export your book records and have Excel or similar programs have a go at sorting the titles. If Excel also comes up with 1 2 6 3 4 5, you should take a look at number 6 title since that seems to be the odd one out :-)

>2 bnielsen: No, there's no extra spaces - the numbers are in full-width numerals, which is the default that applies when typing in kanji, so they just sort of look like that.

I've tested writing them in the half-width that we usually use in English, but that doesn't have an impact, and I've tried copying and pasting the entire title and just changing the single digit (i.e. copying 魔男のイチ「01」 and literally just changing the "1" to the appropriate number) but that didn't work either.

Also, the titles and numbers are typed the same way in the tags I've added as they are in the titles, but if I sort by tag they wind up arranged as they should be. Needless to say, I am perplexed.

I'm not very well versed in Excel, but I'll see if I can figure out how to try out what you mentioned with exporting and sorting it, so thank you for the suggestion.

In the meantime, I appreciate any further ideas!

EDIT: Managed to figure out the excel bit quite quickly with a little googling, so I can say that in Excel the title sorts into the correct order just fine with their current labeling. I remain perplexed.

>1 Ayara012: It appears that the problem is your sort character. On the first three it's character 1 and on the next three it's character 2. So if you change them all to 1, I hope it sorts correctly.

>4 knerd.knitter: Ah, I hadn't gotten that idea! (I'm weird, so all my titles are set to sort on first character).

>4 knerd.knitter: I...did not even realize that was something I could adjust, to be quite honest. But that's fixed it!

It looks like those were the settings they had when I added them to my catalogue, so I'll go through and make sure everything is at 1, now.

Thanks so much to both of you!

>6 Ayara012: I have a script that takes a TSV export file and checks it for weirdnesses. A couple of days ago I added a book by Lars Lundgaard and my script complained about it. For some reason the author was given as "Lundgaard , Lars", i.e. an extra space that would probably not have harmed anyone, but still might have thrown some of the sorting slightly out of whack!

>6 Ayara012: You might want to set/leave some at some other number, most notably English titles that start with 'The' or 'A/An'. When adding from sources, those are automatically set to 5 when it starts with The for instance. Not sure for manual adds.

>8 SandraArdnas: Ooooh yeah, I see how that would be helpful, then. I'll keep it in mind as I get things added!

>9 Ayara012: Fun stuff. I found one more oddity in my own recently added books.

Piet Hein, bind 1. De unge år, 1905-1956
Piet Hein, bind 2. De modne år, 1957-1996

This is volume 1 and 2 of a biography on Piet Hein. In volume 1 the word år consists of two characters (å + r). In volume 2 it is three characters. (a + the ring + r).
They were added from different sources (possibly because my normal library source treated them as one work?),
