Had you heard or known about Monks being bled previously? Why do you think they thought this would prevent illness?

Yes, I’ve heard about Monks being bled previously. They did think that blood-letting would prevent illness.

I never heard this, bleeding was a common medical treatment in the past.

I’d not heard of this before specifically in regard to monks, but I knew it was generally in common use until some time in the 19th century: an ancient practice, believed to aid good health by balancing the body’s fluids.
Thank goodness we don’t do this any more, 🙂.

No, I had not heard this until Carol came up with her research, so thank you Carol.

I knew about the regular practice of bleeding someone when they became ill, but not previously heard about anything linked to monks.
