Should Wesley have been more responsive to Neil? Any thoughts why Diane hadn’t turned up at the dig?

Wesley should have paid more attention to Neil. Diane had confessed to killing Barry Ickerman and hadn’t show up at the dig.

He was consumed with the case coming to a conclusion

Wesley has a bit of a one track mind as his neglect of Pam and his children shows. He should have taken more notice of Neil's anxiety about the letters.

Wesley was not aware of the situation between Neil and Diane. Being at an important juncture in the police investigation, he couldn’t drop everything to listen to Neil. It might have been different if he’d been fully aware of the facts (i.e., if Neil had told him sooner), or he’d not been so busy. Unfortunate timing.
I hadn’t cottoned on to why Diane might be missing from the dig.
