This is a classic love story about a goat herd and a shepherdess on the Greek island of Lesbos in the Aegean Sea, their life, times, tribulations and (of course) final consummation. Written by Longus (about whom nothing is known) in about 300AD, it was first published in western Europe as a French edition in 1559 and in English in 1587. It is a delightful easily read novella. The translation for this edition was done by Irishman George Moore in 1924.

One of my favorites of the LEC; an incredible production top to bottom.

Great review, as always, Warwick. I have always thought this was as close to perfection as a fine press book can get.
