Any initial thoughts on the murder?

The murder will cause resentment and a dangerous environment within his supporters.

There is a lot going on in the community and this murder will definitely stir things up.

It feels like it was an assassination, presumably a cop, and to prevent a case coming to fruition, most probably linked to the expected court case the following g week.

It seems so obviously police retribution of some sort that I'm going to be cautious on guessing. The gun shot up the rectum seems personal.

Is this sexual? Is there abuse involved, somewhere?
As well as the immediate supposition that this is cop retribution, there’s the other possibility that family is involved (isn’t that where investigators usually look first?).
I was wondering about the son, and then Connelly wrote about the photo of Elias and his son at the shooting range. I’d be looking into how good a marksman the son (or wife) is. It would be narrowing the field of investigation if Bosch were only to look at cops - especially when Irving seems to be limiting the time Bosch has to one week.

>6 Sergeirocks: It being sexual or abuse related seems a good theory.

My first idea was that it was made to look like a cop committed the murder in order to let the assassin/killer get away cleanly. The timing of Elias' killing may or may not be coincidental to his upcoming case.

I think it unlikely that a police officer is the killer, the murder feels too personal. I hadn’t considered sexual abuse as a motive. But that is a possibility.
