Gauging interest The Hours group read

In January a number of us expressed interest in a group read of The Hours (in Dan's thread).

I realise we're over halfway through June, so I wondered if anyone is keen for maybe July or August? I would probably prefer August because it will give me time to read Mrs Dalloway though making it July would give me the impetus to read Mrs Dalloway!

If you're interested, let me know which month you'd prefer. Majority will win and then I'll go ahead and set up a separate thread.

I also prefer August. I'm listening to Mrs. Dalloway on audio right now. My plan is to read Mrs. Dalloway in print on my plane ride the 1st weekend in Juy, and then be prepped for The hours. I've seen the movie, but not read the book.

How is this plan? Call it plan A.
- Begin reading July 18 (a Saturday)
- read half by Friday, July 24 (I don't yet know what half is. But the book is 239 pages)
- finish by Friday, July 31

Alternate, plan B
- begin when you like
- finish by July 31
- (slower readers maybe begin ~July 18. Faster readers begin closer to July 31. Average speed readers should plan on about 6 hours of reading)

Looking forward to this group read. I have a slight preference for plan B, but either is fine, really.

Thanks Dan for wrangling us. Half of me wants plan A for the commitments, and the other half wants plan B for the flexibility 😀.

A practical suggestion: if we do the more flexible option, shall we all spoiler tag our comments in the discussion thread? Leaving the chapter reference visible, and the relevant quote from the novel if there are no spoilers in it - so that people can catch up with comments at their own pace? Or is this too cautious? I know it's not really the sort of book that can be 'spoilt' (unless something very different happens in it than I'm expecting...)

Hi all. Alright, I'm getting myself mentally ready, even if July 18 is almost three weeks away. We will do plan B as that seems a clear preference. My plan to manage spoilers is to create two threads.

- On July 18 I will create a spoiler-free thread to talk about the experience of reading of the book. But no spoilers at all.

- On July 31 I will create a post-read thread. Spoilers welcome.

How does this sound?

The good news is I finished Mrs Dalloway in time to start The Hours. The bad news is that I am still waiting for The Hours as an interlibrary loan via my state library which I submitted on 7 July. I thought to check out the ebook in the interim but it's not available either.

TLDR, I'll be a bit delayed with starting.
