Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll – LIMITED EDITION 2016

This book is absolutely gorgeous! I

Between 2008 and 2016 the Folio Society published six magnificent limited editions in a similar format:-
:Wind in the Willows 2008 (reviewed HERE.)
:Rubaiyat of Omar Khayam 2009 (reviewed HERE.)
:Rime of the Ancient Mariner 2010 (reviewed HERE.)
:Gulliver's Travels 2011 (reviewed HERE.)
:Just So Stories 2012 (I must do a review of this one!).
:Alice in Wonderland 2016 (this review).

They were all identical in size and bound in in gilt lettered quarter vellum over cloth boards that were decorated in gilt and colour.

Alice in wonderland has been published several times by The Folio Society:-

1961

1990
As part of a two volume set.

2016 Limited Edition
This edition is dated both 2015 and 2016 on different pages of the book but was not released until 2016. There are eleven colour illustrations and embedded line drawings by Charles van Sandwyk. Every colour picture, even the small ones, was tipped in by hand. The text was letterpress printed by Smith Settle in Yorkshire on cream textured Ambassador Cream Twin-wire paper. The grey Bugra Button endpapers have letterpress printed brown illustrations.

The frontispiece illustration was hand-printed on Somerset Velvet Buff 100% cotton mould-made paper, was signed by Charles van Sandwyk and hand numbered.

The book is quarter bound in white vellum blocked on the spine with the title in gold. The maroon cloth covers have white vellum tips and are printed in colour with an illustration. The page tops are gilded.

It has 162 pages and is housed in a red cloth Solander box (36x27.5x5.2cm.) with a grey paper spine label. 1000 copies were produced at an initial price of £545.

I am not aware of any promotional brochure that was produced for this book.
