I'm in. I have one book to finish for my June challenges. Then, I am going to start reading for some of the July TIOLI challenges, along with some ROOTs.

Also, I just finished my 100th book of the year. I am going to be working on a 100- books retrospective over on my 75 book challenge list.

I'm closing in on finishing 2 audiobooks and a Kindle read. Still tackling closets (different ones, I swear!) and the dungeon (aka basement). On Fridays I try to "get it out" of the house, by donating, tossing, or otherwise fighting the stuff-tsunami that occurred while raising kids. Today that will mean hitting the post office (sorry, cousins, but you volunteered to receive some kid puzzles!) as well as the community donation bins.

Speaking of which, I have several 1000 piece puzzles I'm happy to ship to a good home, should anyone want them (I think you can message me through my Profile page)!

Last day of farm day camp today so
my little niece goes home this evening.

Friday reading:

Books read from: 2:
--Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte; a re-read on audiobook
--The Well-Beloved, Thomas Hardy
Books finished Friday: 0
Time reading Friday: 3.5 hours
Viewing: watched the first episode of the BBC mini-series South Riding; I read this book in May and enjoyed it. So far what's been portrayed is in the book, although it is quite abridged. Since the mini-series is just 3 episodes (1 hour each), there's no way all the details of the book would fit in 3 hours total.

Bookish goals for Saturday:
--donate a bagful of books to a local library sale
--finish listening to the last few chapters of Jane Eyre while running errands today
--continue with The Well-Beloved

Love Jane Eyre, have reread it several times. The miniseries with Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke was pretty faithful, and so I purchased it on DVD.

Friday: read a few more chapters of A Canticle For Leibowitz, and did a little listen-along to the reading to keep me going. It's like having company as I read!

Saturday: listened to a bit of Noli Me Tángere: An Eagle Flight: The English Translation and Pachinko and hope to get back to Pachinko this evening.

Thoughts: I think I finally get where the Leibowitz story is going, but it's been a long road ...
Non-book activities: tidying, updating my book catalogue as I cull my sons' books, and updating the task list as I look around the house and see the repairs that are needed. Tomorrow I'll do a little painting and continue with the tidying. Wish I had a bit more time to sit and read!

>12 fuzzi: Oh yes, I've read it many, many times. The audiobook I have is read by Juliet Stevenson, one of my favorite narrators. And totally agree about the Timothy Dalton/Zelah Clarke adaptation. One year I watched something like 8 or 9 adaptations and it still came out on top for me. I do like Ruth Wilson's performance in the 2006 mini-series, but the adaptation feels less faithful to me and Toby Stephens just doesn't fit how I imagine Mr Rochester.

--finalized my pile of reading possibilities for July

Jun 29, 2:41 pm

Weekend summary:

Books read from:
- audiobook Noli Me Tángere: An Eagle Flight: The English Translation
- paperback A Canticle For Leibowitz (with a little read-along with the audiobook version)
Books finished: audiobooks Pachinko and Quantum Physics Simplified
Time reading: Maybe 2h/day (struggled to find the time this weekend)

Thoughts: Was hoping Noli Me Tangere would help me learn something about the Philippines, but no. The translation is weak (imo) and I'm not fond of the narrator: I'll finish, but not having fun with this one.

Non-book activities: Dinner out with a couple where the women were introducing the men to one another. Since we were brought together through our kids, who work together, it's actually been fun. Our son first thought it was great, now he thinks it is weird - and if one stands back and looks at it, sure! But the other wife and I hit it off and have become friends, so on we go. Besides, if you can't make your children a little weirded out on occasion, what fun are you having??

Total books finished: 2

>25 ChrisG1: All my life at home I remember that my dad had 2 books on his dresser: Versus, poems by Ogden Nash; and The Caine Mutiny. Needless to say, he was in the Navy in WWII. I've read the Ogden Nash (actually he would read it to us) but have yet to tackle Wouk. I will, one day.
