Due to complaints from visitors about the length of loading time, the station manager has put a new train of thought on the track for your derailment pleasure.

Step lively, please. No smoking, gum chewing or spitting.

Jun 12, 2008, 8:04 pm

my wall is doing wonders for my post count this month.

3jugglingpaynes
Jun 12, 2008, 8:09 pm

It's a beautiful wall, ris. Except where the mortar is crumbling...:o)

BTW, cat sends her love and thanks you for all the extra reading. She hasn't been online for a few days, so you can imagine the work ahead of her. And guess what? She's Abe Lincoln. (Don't even try. Only rissa, cat and a select few that read my blog understood that.)

4rissa
Jun 12, 2008, 8:10 pm

hehehe, I like it. sorry for the extra reading cat, but it was too tempting.

5biblioholic29
Jun 12, 2008, 8:16 pm

I have now caught up (I think) and I will leave you to your wall. I have tried to crack it and I confess I cannot. Good luck to you late night people!

6rissa
Jun 12, 2008, 8:17 pm

late night? it's only 5pm.

7catbastet
Jun 12, 2008, 8:17 pm

Oh, don't mind me.
*cries quietly as her brain explodes from the enormous volume of posts*

8rissa
Jun 12, 2008, 8:17 pm

*hugs cat* I really am sorry.

9biblioholic29
Jun 12, 2008, 8:18 pm

No, I know it's not late night yet, but it will be eventually. Of course you'll be up for awhile, but eventually you will go to bed and MrA will be here all by his lonesome.....

10catbastet
Jun 12, 2008, 8:18 pm

8- I know. *hugs* ;)

11rissa
Jun 12, 2008, 8:19 pm

yes, eventually I will sleep, and my wall will crumble overnight.

12compskibook
Jun 12, 2008, 8:33 pm

It will rissa. Mr. A is out there somewhere with his wall breaking sledgehammer!

13rissa
Jun 12, 2008, 8:34 pm

he made a few cracks earlier, but then he went away.

14MrAndrew
Jun 12, 2008, 9:54 pm

i was getting one of these:

15rissa
Jun 12, 2008, 10:02 pm

no, no, no, not my lovely wall.

16MrAndrew
Jun 12, 2008, 10:31 pm

it's ok, it's back.

oh wait, it's not. darn.

17rissa
Jun 12, 2008, 10:34 pm

the wall is being patched as we speak.

18LettaAvanell
Jun 12, 2008, 10:36 pm

now it's being unpatched. hehe.

19jugglingpaynes
Jun 12, 2008, 10:37 pm

I'd like to hug the person who invented spackle. Nothing patches a hole in the wall like spackle. And the word spackle is fun to say.

20rissa
Jun 12, 2008, 10:39 pm

too many people trying to break down my wall at once, it's starting to spring leaks.

21jugglingpaynes
Jun 12, 2008, 10:40 pm

Quick! Find a little boy to stick his finger in the holes!

22rissa
Jun 12, 2008, 10:42 pm

I think I have most of them patched now. you are holding each other up.

23jugglingpaynes
Jun 12, 2008, 11:04 pm

ris, you were supposed to use the word havoc, not cause havoc. :o)

I congratulate you on a successful campaign. I wish I didn't need to get everyone up at 8am tomorrow, I would love to see how long you hold out. Give us a sign off on your last post of the night. ;o)

Goodnight Gracie!

24rissa
Jun 12, 2008, 11:06 pm

I think I shall make my last post of the night it's own thread, how about that?

25Marensr
Jun 12, 2008, 11:08 pm

Wow riss don't want to interupt the wall but impressive!

26rissa

Jun 13, 2008, 12:15 am

yes, very!!

Sorry for confusion on other thread...I would not give my dad "B*tch Goddess", i would give him a t-shirt that says that. You can actually buy them online!!! I was so ready to hit the "buy" button, but then I had second thoughts.

Off the track again:
I just realized I have never seen the Disney movie Hercules in Engish. I've only seen it in French!

28rissa
Jun 13, 2008, 12:18 am

kik, I don't think there are any movies I've only seen in another language, but I have seen some movies in other languages.

29LettaAvanell
Jun 13, 2008, 12:20 am

What about the ones you had to watch for spanish?

30rissa
Jun 13, 2008, 12:23 am

not counting the ones I watched in their original language with subtitles. :-p

31LettaAvanell
Jun 13, 2008, 12:24 am

32rissa
Jun 13, 2008, 12:28 am

I've seen two movies in spanish that were originally made in spanish.

33LettaAvanell
Jun 13, 2008, 12:29 am

34Always_Reading
Jun 13, 2008, 12:30 am

Which ones?

35rissa
Jun 13, 2008, 12:35 am

#33, no, cause I had the other teacher my first quarter.

36LettaAvanell
Jun 13, 2008, 12:36 am

I've seen Valentine, Life According to Muriel and El Abuello.

37rissa

38LettaAvanell

I don't know which ones you watched.

39rissa
Jun 13, 2008, 12:45 am

40LettaAvanell

I have no idea which ones those are.

41rissa
Jun 13, 2008, 12:49 am

yeah, I really can't remember.

42LettaAvanell
Jun 13, 2008, 12:51 am

I could probably find them if the school library still has them. too much work though.

43rissa
Jun 13, 2008, 12:54 am

I don't think I got either from the school library, but they probably had them.

44LettaAvanell
Jun 13, 2008, 12:57 am

maybe. I got all of mine from the school library.

45rissa
Jun 13, 2008, 1:00 am

I waited too long, and almost all the movies from the library were checked out when I needed to watch them.

46LettaAvanell
Jun 13, 2008, 1:02 am

bad rissa for waiting until the last minute.

47rissa
Jun 13, 2008, 1:08 am

58biblioholic29
Jun 13, 2008, 10:00 am

I think MrA is trying to build a wall. I don't want to disturb him, since I know he's probably trying to do this while working, so I will just encourage him by not posting anymore until he has at least 15 threads with his name.

Good luck MrA! May the Schwartz be with you!

ETA: Poor MrA. Must be a busy work day. I only counted seven before it crumbled.

Thinking of the California Raisins characters now.

I had a little stuffed California Raisin once upon a time. I have no idea what happened to it, hough. I think it went to a thrift store one time when I moved. Or Foggi might have taken it.

I couldn't understand why I thought of food every time someone on HE mentioned the word Cullen. Now I know:

According to the Smithsonian Institution, the first true supermarket in the United States was opened by a former Kroger employee, Michael J. Cullen, on August 4, 1930, inside a 6,000 square foot (560 m²) former garage in Jamaica, Queens in New York City. The store, King Kullen, (inspired by the fictional character King Kong), operated under the slogan "Pile it high. Sell it low." At the time of Cullen's death in 1941, there were seventeen King Kullen stores in operation.

105rissa
Jun 21, 2008, 10:52 pm

I signed on for the first time in a few days, and was surprised by the new look, I only know if an update is coming if it was highlighted in the corner. (and no, i'm not sure that that sentence actually makes sense, but I'm tired and sunburned, and spent like 7 hours in the car today, and the rest of the day in the sun, so I don't think I will be able to make complete sense tonight)

#105 Yuck sunburns are the worst. Noxzema(sp?) works well but it'll make you skin feel stiff. You won't hurt though 8)

109rissa
Jun 22, 2008, 4:01 pm

#108 I usually just use aloe gell. it's not a bad sunburn, it doesn't hurt at all now, it's just a little pink.

110Mandy2

Jun 22, 2008, 10:34 pm

or a few drops of lavender essential oil mixed in a cup of witch hazel.

113rissa
Jun 22, 2008, 11:47 pm

or aloe gel (not that stupid stuff with lidocaine, which is all we have at my mom's right now, the stuff we had at my dad's house last night wasn't the stuff I like best, but wasn't too chemical laden, but I like the ocean potion aloe gel best, it contains as little chemicals as possible. it doesn't make the skin stiff, it absorbs into the skin so it doesn't get on your clothes)

114compskibook

Did someone mention gummy bears? That was one of the last things suge mentioned as she went out the door to work - she wants some gummy bears. I wonder if anyone sells them without the green ones. I suppose I could buy some gummy bears and remove the green bears, but it wouldn't seem very nice. What to do with them? Perhaps I should at first only offer her the green ones and see how she reacts.

*mutters* Racist gummy bear person.

;)

120MrAndrew
Jun 24, 2008, 9:25 am

the green ones aren't ripe.

(i learned that from A Fish Called Wanda)

121jugglingpaynes
Jun 24, 2008, 9:35 am

Fish are made of gummy? Wow.
It is very funny to see suge separate out all the poor little green gummy bears. I usually separate the green M&M, but that's because I like to eat my favorite M&M color last. 8-)

#120 MrA:
KIK.
Is that a book??
And shouldn't you be sleeping??

#121 JP:
I agree.

Hmm, when it comes to candy colors, I avoid yellow starbursts and will eat them last from time to time, sometimes the orange starbursts as well. However unlike most people, I favor the pink starbursts most, not the red starbursts. Skittles are, of course, much better than starbursts. "Taste the rainbow, feel the charge" ... How I used to adore those commercials of raining skittles!

I know! I'm getting some very interesting reactions to the new spiel! It's a part of the current promotion which involves 6 X 3 inch tickets entitling the bearer to "one ride". One ride of what you might ask? I'll tell you. One ride in the vehicle of your choiCe (at the dealership). Isn't that pretty much what a test drive is? you might then say. That's exactly what a test drive is, I would answer. Why do I need a ticket? You might then ask. You don't. I would answer. Thus ending the conversation and leaving both of us entirely confused as to why the tickets were ever printed in the first place.

(This is meant to be humorous and is not intended as a rant, though I do mourn the trees that died for the idiotic promotion!)

I think I'll just remove my brain, because I'm not using it anyway. I bought a cake from Cold Stone Creamery for my husbands birthday and forgot to use the coupon I had so diligently stuck in my bag.

There. Now I have extra room for keys, my wallet...and coupons.

130LadyN
Jun 25, 2008, 12:43 pm

I have no idea what a Cold Stone cake may be, but the word Creamery has me thinking it must be pretty yummy....

Oh, and in reference to #123 - I still hold a grudge that we had to change the name to Starburst. We used to call them Opal Fruits. Just like we had to change from Marathon to Snickers. :-P~~~~~~~

131jugglingpaynes
Jun 25, 2008, 12:46 pm

What were kitkats originally called? (Or where they always called kitkats?) Interesting how suge's favorite candy bar went from being a marathon to something of a snicker. ;)

Thanks, jp! I forgot I bought some ice cream! Now if I can find non-green gummy bears to add to it.

Oh, yuck! You know it's summer when every couple minutes you have to look down at your arm to make sure there isn't a bug walking on you. I have the creepy crawlies today and did yesterday, yet no bugs in sight. I think I'm becoming paranoid.

134kirbyowns

Today I saw this license plate: DXECHIKN

So I was trying to figure out if they were fans of the Dixie Chicks or if they just like Dixie Chicken.

I love personalized plates! It's like playing a word game.

Most interesting one I ever saw was when I was a teen. I kid you not, it said: ARRIVEDSTONED
They used very narrow letters.

139biblioholic29
Jun 27, 2008, 8:09 am

I love personalized plates too. Even when you know what the words are you can't always tell what they mean. It's fund to try to guess about people. My parents had a personalized plate years ago that said "Zaire 75". Don't know how many people managed to figure that one out!

We always make up sentences for license plates of family members so we can memorize them.

141compskibook

My current licence starts with BAD and then has four numbers after it. People think it is personalized, but it just came that way. I love it!

LOL I just read on article on Yahoo (i think it was Yahoo) about the problem with plates that the letters came out as WTF. A grandmother complained after she caught her teen aged grandkids giggling about it and made them explain it was text talk. LOL the state has now recalled all the plates that started with those letters, something like 10,000 of them. I wonder if ohio has thought of that cuz our plates are three letters then four numbers also.

I almost had a puppy.

The sweetest little brown dog was wandering around outside the library. She wasn't wearing a collar, but you could tell she wasn't used to being on her own -- she looked so scared and lost. We brought her into the meeting room to wait while we called the shelter. I sat with her for a while, and she climbed right into my lap to be petted. I had to get back down to work, but I told them to let me know when animal control showed up, because I would take her if nobody claimed her while she was in the shelter. Fortunately for her (though a little sad for me) her owner showed up within ten minutes of us bringing her in, before the shelter people had a chance to get here.

I really don't need a puppy quite yet -- I'm still trying to get settled in my house. But oh, she was so sweet!

Awww, how precious! You'll find one just as sweet when the time is right. :)

I'm having ice cream for lunch. Shhh! Don't tell suge. ;) I really need to cook, but her stove terrifies me - fires comes up from it! If I had been the one cooking last night when it got on one of the grilled cheese sandwiches, I would surely have panicked something awful.

I'm kind of missing regular food. No more peanut butter toast, frozen strawberries, velveeta macaroni and cheese, cheese pretzels from Wetzel's, strawberry sensations from Orange Julius...*sigh* When I get home, I'm off meat. I think it's offical that I've had more in the last month than in the last year.

#146 -- A gas stove? I have one in my new house. I really like it, but the open flame can be intimidating when you're used to electric. You are sounding a bit homesick, K. :-)

My car license plate starts with the numbers 007 -- which would be great, if I was a James Bond fan. At least it makes it easy to remember (though I never can remember the three letters that come after it).

I'm going insane right now knowing the clock is ticking, bringing me closer to the time I will get to see my mom, sisters, and the cats, but also that it will take me away from here, where I don't know when I will see our wonderful NY LTers again. I was teary at the airport to say bye to my mom on the way here, and I'll be teary at the airport to say bye to friends on the way home. (Lurkers who laugh, I don't care.)

I think it depends on what you grew up with. I've always had a gas stove to work with, so I love gas. My cousins prefer electric. I figure at least I can still eat hot food if the power goes out. ;o)

I did once ask a friend who was a professional chef what his preference was and he said gas. A really good top-of-the-line gas stove has a lot of flame control, which is necessary for certain dishes.

157MEM82
Jun 27, 2008, 6:22 pm

Eh, I grew up with gas but I prefer electric. I have an ultra sensitive nose so I can smell the gas constantly. I was always checking the pilot lights when I got my own place with gas. Happily now I have a flat top range. No gas and no electric coil= perfection.

I never used gas cooking until I was 25, so I don't know that growing up with it has anything to do with it. So Missie just looked at me and she says:
"So people call others nerds because they're smart. I guess that means that I am a nerd because I'm smart and like to learn.'
ME in my head: Oh, god, is this where I tell her that nerd is just a word and doesn't mean anything? Or is this the lecture on not allowing herself to be catorgorized by others. OR should I skip all that and try to explain why you don't go around thinking about how smart you are yet not in anyway making her feel like she isn't as intelligent as she thinks'?
So I babble to my 7 year old, "Ah, well you know, sweetpea, cool people can be smart, too but they only make up a small percentage of the population. Therefore perfectly regular people who have high intellects can and do live between the cool people and the nerdy people. So you don't have to be a nerd just because you're smart but there isn't anything wrong with nerdiness.'
Missie gives me a pitying look and goes back to watching Tom and Jerry.
*bangs head against wall*
Why did I decide I was smart enough to have children? Mine are obviously smarter than I am and pity me for my lack of insight of the world in which we live.

295jugglingpaynes

Where's my bottle of antacid? I only wanted sons. Never daughters. Strange, strange creatures. I'm a girl and yet somehow I still don't understand the mind of my daughter. ETA Mary Now you know why I always said you were too smart for my own good!

303jugglingpaynes
Jul 17, 2008, 9:17 pm

I never read it myself, but I hear Reviving Ophelia is a very good book about self esteem and girls. Homeschooling definitely helps. My girls are pretty secure with themselves, even though they tend to be a bit shy (they get the shyness from me.)

polly, I'm surprised Nerd came up in seven year old conversation too. I thought seven year olds were using much more colorful language these days. 8-0

From the Free Dictionary:
The word nerd, undefined but illustrated, first appeared in 1950 in Dr. Seuss's If I Ran the Zoo: "And then, just to show them, I'll sail to Ka-Troo And Bring Back an It-Kutch a Preep and a Proo A Nerkle a Nerd and a Seersucker, too!" (The nerd is a small humanoid creature looking comically angry, like a thin, cross Chester A. Arthur.)

304rissa
Jul 17, 2008, 10:49 pm

#284 she had tried to download something and hadn't had enough money on her account to do so, and got a message saying that the download had gone through and she had been charged. the download hadn't gone through and she hadn't been charged. she was angry that she hadn't been charged, so we couldn't refund her account.

mem, the correct answer is "I guess some people might call you a nerd, but it's okay to be who you are, even if some people are jealouse because you like to learn more than they do"

298 K Monster was the offspring of a cat I rescued from neighbor boys throwing rocks at her and she won our whole family over and became our cat and then had kittens.

He was just a grey and white kitty but he was big and he loved me more than anyone else in our family.

We'd go for walks together in my neighborhood and he would walk beside me. He waited for me to get home from college to see him before he died of cancer. I was devestated. It is one of the unkind things about nature that we have such different life spans from the animals we love.

Thank you both. it is better to have had such a pet and still miss him after years and years than to have not had such an amazing feline friend. When they break our hearts it makes our hearts just a little bigger so there is more room for others. Which is perhaps why we have three kitties now. I read the Policies and Procedures and I'm allowed to use the internet for personal use periodically. I can't spend all 8 hours on like I could at my other job, but if I pop in for a couple minutes here a couple there on my downtime it's cool.

The jobs going pretty well. Definitely more interesting that the last job. I even get to use my brain! There was one guy who was a bit irritating because he's one of those people who assumes you're an idiot and explains every little thing, but once I showed him that I'm not an idiot, and in fact know some things better than he does (he couldn't figure out how to add a printer to my account!) it got better.

My boss and one of the other women there both go to church with my parents and are in my mom's Bible Study group, so I've known them forever, which definitely helps first week jitters! I feel more in my element here, I've worked in low-income housing before and some of what they do at my new organization is similar to what they've done in my other jobs, so it's not completely new and I understand a lot of the terminology. More fun with training today. First I learned some stuff where the Weasley's were the example. Now I'm watching one and the trainers homepage has mugglenet linked! Now I want to link mugglenet to my homepage. (That's the database's homepage I'm talking about.)

Wait, what training? If it's a job, sweet job!

How cool! A Harry Potter fan at work. I lost my copy of PoA because a co-worker had borrowed mine before I quit. I don't mind, though. I'll get another one and make it be hardcover this time.

You didn't have a hardcover before? Good time as any for an upgrade!!

That stinks, I hope the co-worker discovers they have your book!

It's online software training. The trainer is somewhere far away. I talk about it in #318, 320.

#351 A_R:
Nope. It was actually 'borrowed' from one of my sisters who 'borrowed it' from our father years ago. Shhh, don't tell! ;)
I think until I drop by my old work to say hi that she'll have forgotten. She borrowed it at the start of 2008 and it took her till May just to get halfway through the book. Weird, huh?

Lurking isn't providing many answers about our MrA other than to say he was surely overwhelmed awhile ago on the Unca Andrew thread. I just read it for the first time and was laughing so hard I saw crying. Last post on that thread: July 12th. We've seen him around more recently than that.

Well Kerian, some people aren't avid readers like us. Some people take weeks or even months to read a novel. Unlike those of us, who take 2-3 days to read a 900+ page book.

Perhaps some of you who are in the GD would know how often MrA usually posts there. That group has a new thread called Missing regulars. His name isn't on the list.

Eek!

Oh, it's just you, MrA. I'm glad that you aren't dying from a debilitating illness which keeps you from going on LT. :)
Hope that stuff clears up!

Glad to hear from you, MrA!

Half of the carpet in my bedroom is now gone! Hooray! I had hoped to do the whole room this evening, but I overestimated how much I could get done at one go. I'm doing the bedroom in halves because that way I don't have to figure out how to move the bed out of there all by me onesies (Capt. Jack Sparrow moment there) -- that mattress is heavy, not to mention unwieldy! I'm just going to mop the part that's done, and then I can slide the bed over to the done part and be ready to deal with the rest of the room tomorrow!

Foggi that's how I paint and renovate! We don't have the option of a spare room to store stuff, so everything gets shoved to one side while we paint, and then to the other side.

I have one more juggling workshop tomorrow before I can collapse in a puddle of exhaustion. Someone please keep a mop handy. :o)

No problem JP...I've had a mop glued to my hand these past few days.

I have a concert to put on tomorrow, scary!

I just had my first Bohka (sp) burger...delicious!!! I highly recommend them.

Thanks for stopping by Mr.A!!

Ahh...Boca burgers. Can't say I'm a fan. The texture is too realistic for me, I prefer a black bean burger. Boca burgers would be great for people who are vegetarians for health reasons though or who enjoy beef burgers but are trying to cut back on red meat.

4 hours before the workshop.

Did you know that if you leave your bag of juggling scarves in the basement, they get musty?

It's been so fun preparing for this workshop...

Good luck removing the rest of the carpeting! :)

#362 jp:
I've wondered what you've been busy with. I've missed your posts on LT!

My mom agrees with foggi. She also suggests tying the scarves to your car and driving very fast. :)

I just got a phone call from someone. It was really confusing, because I couldn't understand them very well. Eventually, I got the message. Still, I was baffled. Apparently they read it off of a bumper sticker while driving on the freeway. The bumper sticker says this: "Voldemort votes Republican." No insult, injury, or snickers intended.

#367 I've heard about that before. I think that's stupid. Voldy is British, after all; he couldn't vote one way or the other even if he wanted to instead of taking over the world.

I'm glad that maybe you can relax a little better now. Go take a nap? *hug*

Very true! And for what purpose would he need to vote with a plan like that?

Hubby got me the complete series of "Buck Rogers in the 25th century" for our anniversary. This is a show I watched when I was around ten. Still love that Tigerman.

Maybe it's from reading about Genghis Khan, but we thought the costumes on the Draconians looked like a cross between a Mongol raider and a samurai.

Wow! It's so easy to catch up when a lot of LTers are off at book parties!

Teddy bears have invaded my home. There are six of them on my couch. I know, I have kids, but I've never seen four of these bears before!

You're not kidding! Every time I looked at the couch there were two more. All looking at me with their little button eyes.

JP, I fear that a simple cleaning may not be enough. we may need another train to play on as the wait to go though the railway intersection is starting to take a long time... Or maybe it's just my wonky Internet.
