Muraqqa': Imperial Mughal Albums from the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin
Exhibit presented from May 3, 2008 through August 3, 2008 at Arthur M. Sackler Gallery (Smithsonian Institution), Washington, D.C.
The exhibition presents 82 masterpieces, some never previously exhibited in the United States, from the collection of the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin. The exhibit features Mughal paintings and calligraphies commissioned by the Emperors Jahangir (r. 1605-27) and Shah Jahan (r. 1627-58) for display in lavish imperial albums. Items in the exhibit represent some of the finest examples of the arts of the book created during the early seventeenth century.
