Why am I not surprised that we have certain books in common?
And just to see how this 'Touchstone' thing works: Tolkien.
Weird.

I think it's interesting that more of us have The Silmarillion than have The Lord of the Rings. :)

Right now, it's neck and neck. And I have three copies of LotR but only one of The Silm, so perhaps that weighs a little in the balance? :D

And that last message was actually from me, but I was signed in under my sockpuppet id, Nota. ;-)

Just posted most of my Tolkien....
What, no one else here with Bored of the Rings?

I have the first edition, but it's shoved behind some other things in my 'study'. I'm still only part way through the living room collection. Bored of the Rings will be placed with the other LotR books as soon as I find it. God help me.

I have Bored of the Rings somewhere on my shelves, but I decided to concentrate on the Sherlockiana for a bit.

I've been cataloguing by room, although every now and then I dart into another room for an armload of books. I need to slow down.

Bored of the Rings is blasphemy!
Seriously, I could never finish it. It got to be too much yuck after awhile.
Amazingly enough, I've never read The Silmarillion, although I've read the trilogy countless times.

I bought Bored of the Rings because it was published in the year that I first read LotR and I'd have bought anything at that point, but I didn't read it. I thought it was excruciatingly juvenile. My copy is probably 'near fine'. :D

Well, I suppose I must step up to defend my beloved Bored of the Rings. I imagine that a good deal depends upon your introduction/frame of mind when encountering it. Since my best friend and I spotted it in the local market at the age of 16, and had to speed-read it there (not having the 95 cents between us to buy it), we have adored it. This was the golden age of Mad magazine, mind you, (mid-60s) and absolutely nothing was sacred. It tooks us several tries to get through it, because they would kick us out when we started to giggle and snort too loudly. Ah, good times, good times.
Needless to say, its charm was, to a considerable degree, a product of its time.

I've finally added all of my LOTR related books, except for The Hobbit, which I cannot seem to find at the moment. It's fun to see your names pop up with some of them. :)

I loved Mad, but for some reason my 'adolescent male humour alarm' went wild when it encountered BotR. When I find the book, I'll have another go, but that alarm is pretty touch sensitive nowadays. ;-)

How many people own LOTR in other languages? I was surprised to find I was the only one at LibraryThing to own copies of Yubiwa Monogatari (LOTR in Japanese).

I have Yubiwa Monogatari, but it's catalogued under "Lord of the Rings": http://www.librarything.com/card_card.php?book=291653
This is a 7-volume set, 2 volumes for each book of the trilogy, plus the appendix.
I also have LotR in Russian, French, Finnish, Indonesian, Chinese, and German (the horrible green eye edition). I may have forgotten to add some of them to LT...
Why are the covers of German editions of Tolkien so ugly? 8-

I see, you grouped the whole set together instead of separate volumes. Unfortunately it doesn't show up on any of the lists showing Tolkien's work.
