Something new please...

I've been a member here for a while off and on, and i'm just now getting into the social networking aspect of it all, but i've recently had an ever increasing yen for books in the Japanese non-fiction, sub-culture vein. Having already gone through Speed Tribes and Pink Samurai, has anyone any suggestions for further reading? Thank you all.

You might enjoy Hitomi Kanehara's Snakes and Earrings and Natsuo Kirino's Grotesque or something by Miyuki Miyabe.

i just read this book - earthen angels - by sarbari chowdhury. The stories are absolutely mind blowing. Some of the stories give a perspective of an immegrant's life that anyone living outside their country can relate to.

You might also enjoy An Invitation to Kagura: Hidden Gem of the Traditional Japanese Performing Arts. It documents a subculture of folk theater "happenings" that really give noh and kabuki a run for their money.

I didn't enjoy Snakes and Earrings, it was trying to hard to be sensationalistic. Underground by Haruki Murakami may be interesting, especially the second half where he talks about the Aum cult.
