I saw a CNN.com article earlier this year that cited a study about how the average American reads all of four books in a year. Four! That just amazes me. I can't imagine not having something to read at all times.

Currently, I'm reading The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, which probably will keep me busy for about three months or so. But this year, I've also read, in no particular order, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, both for the second time, both to my five-year-old daughter. I've also read Water for Elephants, The Quiet American, Wicked (not that good), Guests of the Ayatollah, Anna Karenina, The Kite Runner, White Teeth, Will in the World, All the King's Men (one of the best I've ever read, by the way, Timebends, The Misfits, Hard News, Maps and Legends, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, In the Beauty of the Lilies, Sense and Sensibility, Emma ... I don't know, maybe I'm confused with some I read last year.

Anyway, I have a commute, so I have read quite a bit, although certainly not 50 books -- that's serious commitment. But I'm curious to see how much I actually do read.
