I'm hoping you all can lead me to the best of the clean romances. The ones I've found are not well written. Romance/suspense is my favorite. I'm looking forward to some great escapes from day to day life.

Thank you!

Mary

bromo53, were you looking for current authors? You may already know these authors but there are a number of 'older' writers that I've enjoyed over the years whose books are very clean. Mary Stewart is probably the most famous among the romantic/suspense genre. Georgette Heyer is the queen of regency romances. Elizabeth Cadell wrote wonderful gentle romances set in England and Portugal. I seem to remember that Victoria Holt also wrote clean suspense novels.

All of the above authors' books stop at kisses, but are still very romantic.

One more thought: Have you looked at the reviews on the allaboutromance.com site? When they review a book, they rate the 'sexiness' and one of the categories is 'kisses.' I think you can search for books in that category.

Pamela Britton has written several "NASCAR" romances. They're definitely clean, but the quality varies wildly.

Believe it not Stephanie Laurens has a couple of clean romances published by Mira:

The Reasons for Marriage
A Lady of Expectations
A Comfortable Wife
Four in Hand
A Rouge's Reform

These are good stories. One thing I like with the MIRA's from Laurens is that she doesn't use one word sentences or those stupid triptics "Hot, heavy, overdone." that she employs during love scenes in her Avons. The reviews on Azn are mixed, but I found them enjoyable.

I think you might like J.D. Robb aka Nora Roberts In Death books. They are not absolutely innocent but they certainly are not steamy. Also, I think most of Nora Roberts books are pretty tame and she has written a lot of romantic suspense.

You might also enjoy books written by Catherine Cookson, Susan Howatch, and Anya Seton. They are older romances and very clean. In addition, they are all good writers.

Actually I find the In Death series to have graphic violence and fairly explicit sex. I would tend to rate them as R (using movie rating terms).

I was going to say the same thing about the In Death books - they are plenty steamy to me.
Another suggestion may be the Historical Romance stories of either PB Ryan or CS Harris. I haven't read them myself, but I know they are written by authors who formerly wrote romance (Patricia Ryan aka PB Ryan and CS Harris aka Candice Proctor) I think they are fairly clean but perhaps someone else who has read them can help.

I'm glad to find readers who share my love for thoughtful, romantic, love stories, rather than what seems to be the trend in the romance genre today.
For older authors, I recommend Gwen Bristow and Elswyth Thane - both of whom write historicals.
For the sake of full disclosure, I am the author of Shades of Gray, a clean, Civil War-era novel. I'm looking forward to seeing books that others recommed.

Gwen Bristow and Elswyth Thane are both wonderful!

Dee Henderson is also very good. I have read a couple of her series - one is a military series - something about VALOR. (My aging brain is showing out this morning.)
