Alexander McCall Smith has written a chapter in his online novel entitled 'Rye" and makes a reference to E. F. Benson and Mapp and Lucia.

Yes, he gave a lovely speech after dinner. He also kindly sent me a handwritten note afterwards about Major Benjy. What a charming man! I am just about to read his The Sunday Philosophy Club.
