I finished Cindy Gerard's new book Take No Prisoners & all I have to say is............
WOW!!! 5 stars!!
This is the 2nd book in her Black Ops, Inc. trilogy & the first book was really, really good, but this one was even better! The next one won't be out until the end of December :(

I'm starting a YA horror novel today but after this I have A Wallflower Christmas out from the library to be read. I'm looking forward to it!

I'm starting something light Miranda's viking by Maggie Shayne. Lots of study projects this week.

Just finished Slightly Tempted by Mary Balogh, am now reading a mystery. A Wallflower Christmas has just arrived and that will be next.

Just finished Mistress of Scandal. It was a good book, 4/5 stars. I am interesting in picking up her previous books when I can.
I am still reading Vampire Kisses 5. I have not yet decided which romance novel I'm going to start next, but I'll let ya know when I do. ;)
EDITED: Finished Vampire Kisses 5-- good book, like the others. Now I am reading a teen fantasy book, Revealers, along with The Devil's Temptation by Kimberly Logan

I had to take a break from reading books of my choice due to having to read a few statistics books for school :|
But now that I'm done those it's back to romance! I'm about halfway through Shana Galen's No Man's Bride and so far I like it, but don't love it. I don't like how young and childish the heroine and her friends act when they are together. They are supposed to be in their early twenties but seem about twelve years old, especially when they start talking about pirate treasure! But the writing (as usual with Galen) is solid and I do like the hero and the storyline.

I read Like No Other Lover by Julie Anne Long. I love her writing and this was no exception; it was outstanding.
I also read Love's Prisoner in Secrets 6 and Jared's Wolf in Secrets 8 by MaryJanice Davidson. I loved Derik's Bane in her Wyndham werewolves series, so finally got the first two novellas in the series. They were a lot of fun.

I haven't been feeling well these past few days, so I've been lying on the couch plowing through Erin McCarthy's Vegas Vampires series. On the whole I would say this series is average. The vampire lore is a bit basic and there's not just a whole lot of time spent on developing the vampire "world". Theres lots of sex, but the romance always seems to grow (rather suddenly) out of lust, which is something I'm never really keen on. I like my romances to build believably. I think the third book in the series, Bled Dry, comes a little closer to having a believable romance. I do like how the characters from the previous books play major roles in the later books - it's almost as if the entire series could have been written as one book since there is a definite story arc to them all.
Anyways, I'm starting the 4th and final book today, Sucker Bet. Then I don't really know what I'll read next. My sister-in-law has been after me for months to read Twilight by Stephanie Meyer but I've been kind of hesitant to open up that whole can of worms...

Thank you for your kind words... This is such a great (and supportive) group!
... and I don't think I'm going to be feeling better in the very near future. I'm expecting a baby and am in the throes of morning/afternoon/evening sickness. But there's a light at the end of the tunnel! :D

Congrats Katybear, how exciting!
If you're still looking for Twilight feedback, I would certainly recommend it. The first time I read the story I felt the beginning was a little slow but by the end of the book I was in love with it.

Congratulations, katybear! I do hope you feel better very soon (according to friends who've suffered through this, the first trimester is usually the worst).

Thanks everyone for all the congratulations and moral support!! Yall are so nice! (and congratulations to mamalaz on your upcoming grandbaby!) This is actually our third child, so I'm familiar with the whole pregnancy routine by now - unfortunately that doesn't necessarily make it any easier... ;) Thank goodness I have lots of good romance novels to read and this group to discuss them with to help keep me distracted.
DL - Thanks for the Twilight recommendation - I may have to break down and go ahead and read it soon.

Last night I started reading a Silhouette Romantic Suspense title from a couple of years ago: Juliet's Law, by Ruth Wind. This will be the second book I've read by this author. The first was In the Midnight Rain, which I'm still thinking about weeks later. Ruth Wind also writes under the name Barbara Samuel.

I've been sneaking Miss Lockharte's Letters by Barbara Metzger in class on my laptop (yay for ebooks), and I just started Petticoat Rebellion by Joan Smith on my commute.
I'm enjoying them both so far, but I'll probably have to turn to something properly spicy afterwards to balance out the sweetness. I may have to try one of the new Harlequin Historical Undone ebooks.

Just finished The Devil's Temptation, which I enjoyed very much and I cannot wait to get my hands on her other books, both in the series and stand alones.
I am now moving onto a lighter read, Be Still My Vampire Heart and continuing the Teen Fantasy Revealers.

I finished A Wallflower Christmas in record time, considering I worked a full day and watched Journey to the Center of the Earth with my son and husband last night. I really enjoyed it!

Congratulations, katybear!
I finished Much obliged by Jessica Benson. I didn't care much for it.
Also finished Power Play by Deirdre Martin.
Now I'm getting ready to go the Paul Potts concert tonight in Frankfurt. He won the show Britain's got talent, for those of you who haven't heard of him. You can have a look at you tube. I cry every time I hear him sing so I'm taking an extra box of kleenex with me tonight. It's my first classical concert and I'm really excited.

I'm reading Almost heaven, Judith McNaught. I have read some of her books before, but not this one. I am about halfway, and I know already this is one I will use as "comfort-read" and return to many many times.
And congratulations from me too, no matter it's the third katybear, it's always new and exciting!

I just finished Mr. Cavendish, I Presume by Julia Quinn. I liked it!
Now I am on the A Wallflower Christmas. Then I must get toSeduce Me At Sunrise. I don't know why, but I have been putting that off. Actually I have been in a reading slump where nothing has appealed to me. Too much politics, I suspect!

pmpayne, after you read Seduce Me at Sunrise be sure to post your thoughts on it in the October book discussion thread. We'd all love to know what you think!
Jenson, I had planned to read Wallflower Christmas a little closer to the holiday itself and had even started Marion Chesney's Refining Felicity last night but your post changed my mind and I've decided I can't wait!

Im almost finished with J.R. Ward's most recent additional to the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series Insider's Guide This has to be my favorite series so far. I love the "Brother's" - if you haven't read her books you should really take a peak.

>31 scrpo1027: I am still waiting for my bookstore to get the Insider's Guide in stock so I can read it! I love the books, and I cannot wait to get my hands on this one.
I just finished the Teen fantasy Revealers, which I loved, way more than her first book that came out early this year, Uninvited.

So I finally broke down and read Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It was absolutely fantastic. I went into it thinking it was going to be dark and intense, which it was. However, I didn't realize that it is, essentially, a romance. I'm surprised there hasn't been much discussion of it here actually - at least among the paranormal romance fans. (Or maybe everybody else on the planet has already read it and talked it to death and I'm just showing up late to the game.)
At any rate, I thought it was a wonderfully well-developed, tender, and moving love story. Of course, it's a young adult novel, so it clocked in pretty low on the sensuality meter - but the romance is so highly-developed that I didn't feel like I was missing anything. (Don't get me wrong, though - I'm sort of holding out hope that as they grow older Edward and Bella eventually get it on later in the series...) Now I'm on my way out to the bookstore to pick up the next book in the series, New Moon!
sarams - I know a lot of folks don't care for Judith McNaught, but she was one of the first romance authors I read. I loved all her historicals, but I think Almost Heaven is one of her best. It has a fabulous ending.
*and thanks again everyone for all the congratulations! :)

Be warned, katybear: Once you start the Twilight Series, you will be reading them very, very quickly. You may want to grab Eclipse and Breaking Dawn while you are at the store, because other wise you will just be running back out in a day or two, I proimse!
And I agree with everything you said about it. I myself got into the series when it first came out in 2003, and I've devoured each and every one in the series since. The last one, Breaking Dawn, I read in one day. For the last two books, eclipse and BD, my friends and I went to the midnight release party for them, we're that obsessed!
The books might be 'geared' towards the teens, but anyone can read them and enjoy them! And if you are hoping for a bit more heat, I promise, she does crank it up a bit in the future ones, especially in the last one, BD. Of course, it's not like the romance novels we talk about on here, but it's not exactly PG rated either! But the story and romance is so great that she could have left out the bit of passion and it would have been great, though I myself love it just the way it is.
If you want to talk more about it, there are more than a few Twilight groups on here, most of which I am a member of, and you can always join in on the conversations there. Even though most people *well, most people I know!* have read the books already, they never tire of talking about it. :)
If I didn't say it when every one else did early, Congratulations on the baby. Hope you enjoy your day, and New Moon!

I just finished reading Pride and Prejudice. I thought I had read it a few times before, but I don't think I actually did. I just started Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris.

Twilight was very good but you must read all 4 because I enjoyed the 3rd & 4th most of all. Also, with the movie coming out, too exciting :) I love the BDB Series - Rhage is my fav along with Z but always on the look for some good recommendations.

Castles by Julie Garwood. I heard her books are graphic in the romance dept, something i don't usually read....so i will see if i enjoy it.
Also this is really late but i noticed that The_Book_Queen asked me if i enjoyed the book With Every Breath by Lynn Kurland, which i was reading the week of October 6. This one was disappointing for me. For half the book the heroine spent it whining and moping, there was nothing that grabbed my attention and i found it very difficult to finish reading it.
Her earlier books are much better, so i would read those first! :)

>37 scrpo1027: I agree completely with you!
>38 caffeinatedlove: Thanks for telling me. If I read that one, I'll have to see if my opinion is the same as yours or not. It's possible--I despise whinny heroines *or heroes*, so that alone may make me rate the book low. Who knows until I read it *if I read it* though.
Finished Be Still My Vampire Heart by Kerrelyn Sparks. LOVED IT! I have to read the other ones in the series now..
I am finally going to read The Bride by Julie Garwood, which has been recommended to me many times over the past year or two, and I finally found a copy of at my bookstore about a month ago. I'm excited to read it, since I've heard so many good things about her work, especially on The Bride and The Wedding, both of which I have in my TBR pile right now. Plus, it's in Scotland-- my favorite place for historical romances.. I think I'm going to love it!

I finished To Dream Again, an older book by Laura Lee Guhrke. It was unusual -- about a widow in the late 1800's running an electric motor factory, and the toy inventor who invests in the factory. Like all her books I've read so far, it was excellent.
42ktleyed
#40 - TBQ - The Bride is my favorite book by Julie Garwood and the first I read of hers too - it hooked me! I love her funny and quirky heroines!
I'm now beginning The Dark Highlander, another Scottish romance by one of my favorite authors, Karen Marie Moning.

I am one of those people who have read Twilight and the others several times and can take about it forever. I just wanted to point out that the books are very sensual, but not sexual. Meyer is mormon and when I heard her give a talk she explained that she really wanted books that would not be really graphic especially because they are for a teen audience. In addition, you can check out Midnight Sun (Twilight from Edward's point of view) on Meyer's website (www.stepheniemeyer.com).
In terms of Julie Garwood, I have to agree that she is fabulous. Almost Heaven is my favorite and she was one of the first romance authors I ever read.

I just finished Wallflower Christmas and I loved it. it was fun to catch up with the lives of the four Wallflowers and then I loved Hannah as a heroine and of course Rafe was quite wonderful.

I read Angel In A Red Dress by Judith Ivory and am very ambivalent about it. It's extremely well written, and perfect for someone who likes sweeping, complex dramas. Unfortunately, I didn't particularly like either main character, and there were some details in the hero's past that really turned me off (five of them, if you've read the book).
47anamuhandis
I just finished To Seduce A Sinner by Elizabeth Hoyt. Wow. Great story, and sooo romantic. I've loved her other books, but this one was a stand-out. I'm bummed I have to wait until next May for the next one in the series.
48Lam
I completely agree anamuhandis! I just recently read To Seduce a Sinner and loved it! Definitely one of my favourite Elizabeth Hoyt's. I loved that it was more of a character study and how it spent the length of the novel really developing the love story. It was a nice change from the normal tales of villains and spies. But like you said, now we have to wait until MAY(!!!) for the next one!
49The_Book_Queen
I have not yet read To Seduce a Sinner, but it is on the top of my want to read list *along with the first one in the series, but that one is in my TBR pile right now..) and after both of your glowing reviews on here, I am even more eager to read it!

Elizabeth Hoyt is an awesome writer. I am impatiently waiting for TSAS. I may just have to quit my job and open a bookstore so I can get first dibs. I spend my paycheck at them anyway.
