Okay, I am just weird this time of year I guess. I'm glued to my TV every Sunday, watching the modern gladiators slug it out on the natural grass or astroturf... But my curiosity got the better of me.
Anyone here a NFL football fan?
Redskins or Ravens? (Or even Colts, if you still cheer them after they abandoned our state...)

Redskins...though I never watch the games any more. My husband just tells me about them. :-)

I tell people that I have 31 favorite NFL teams the Cowboys, Dolphins and whoever plays against the 'Skins. I cetainly am not a Redskins fan (a.k.a Deadskins). I wouldn't belong to the group if it had burgandy and gold colors.

I don't consider myself a nut about this kind of thing, but I don't know how anyone can support a team that still calls itself the "Redskins."

I totally agree that the name is offensive especially to Native American Indians. No one would even think of naming a team with a word that another group of people find offensive to them so they should change the team name. I think they should hold a Contest to change the team name and the winner whose suggestion gets picked will receive a free lifetime Season Pass to all the home games. At least that is what I would do if I owned the team.

Little history on the name of the team, then:
When the team moved to Washington, then owner felt the team needed to be renamed, because the Braves was so Bostonian. After a run off of ideas, the name Redskins came to the fore. The owner checked with the local Native American population, and got their approval for the name. The Cheif that rides around Fedex Field? Actual local Native American who supports the team. (Don't think that post is hereditary.)
And the changing the group colors was simply a joke, since I had heard from no one but 'Skins fans to that point.
(No Ravens fans at all?)

I'm a 'skins fan from way back, but these days it's more a sentimental thing than anything else. But I actually do root for the Ravens as well; I see no reason to like one more than the other. Two different divisions, and I don't think a Redskins/Ravens superbowl is in the cards for a long time to come.....

Yea I know it was a joke. I'm just I don't care for the colors burgundy and gold and I HATE I really mean HATE the song Hail To The Redskins that gets on my nerves. I was real glad to see Joe Gibbs leave the second time around without making them a winner like they were the first time he was the Coach. I doubt if Jim Zorn will be able to do too much with them especially his first couple of seasons if he lasts that long.
