Whitley Strieber: Horror writer...

I know he's sort of gone off the deep end with the Communion stuff and The Coming Global Superstorm/The Day After Tomorrow, but way back when, Whitley Strieber was a fairly popular horror writer. Anybody ever read any of that stuff? Is it worth while?

I've heard of The Wolfen and The Hunger of course, and The Night Church, The Forbidden Zone and Black Magic sound promising. I also remember seeing a book of his that sounded vaguely Lovecraft-ian that had something to do with a well(?)

I'd also like to try Warday, though copies can be a little pricey.

Has anybody read any of this? I'd like to know if I should seek any of it out.

I read Black Magic years ago, but don't remember it being anything great. Cat Magic, from what I remember, was better. I started The Hunger, but gave up. Sorry, I'm not much help, but from what I can remember, his works didn't do much for me.

I liked Cat Magic but it's more chick lit, liked Wolfen and Hunger as well. But that was 20 years ago - dunno if I would still like them.

I don't want to pursuade you from trying him as I don't remember much of what I read by Whitley Strieber. I read one of his books in the 80's. Either Black Magic or Cat Magic. I don't remember which one and the synopsis for both didn't help ring a bell. That's a little embarrassing, but like daddygoth he didn't do much for me either. I really didn't want to read about his abduction by aliens and didn't try his other books.

Well, I read Majestic and don't rememver much about it eiether, so I can see where this is heading. Also, I started The Grays and just really didn't like it. I guess I won't be hunting down his other stuff. But maybe if I stumble across it in a used bookstore...

I liked his older stuff. I really think you need to try one or two and then make up your own mind. Library would be a great place to start, and its free!
