This was the first time that we've every had a bonus batch and a 'regular' batch run at the same time and there seemed to be a lots of questions about how it worked on the group. This was also the first time Abby didn't run the scripts that pick winners so it was a fun/interesting experience for me. I also had the opportunity to make them easier to use for whomever runs them next.
So, The Canterbury Tales was the bonus batch. If you requested it you should have gotten a separate 'win or lose' comment. Everyone had one chance to win any book and a second chance to win The Canterbury Tales. That's all there really was to it.
I'm wondering if people who requested a book in the 'regular' batch (and not from the bonus batch) might have gotten 'lose' comments erroneously. I'm not sure, you tell me?
The Early Reviewers program is getting some special attention at the moment and will be back online w/ a fresh batch and some shiny new (mostly back-end) functionality soon.
Thanks,
Mike (mike@librarything.com)

I got a loser comment for the regular batch even though I didn't request anything. I did make a bonus batch request.

P.S. I also sent about 100 winners of the 'regular' December batch a screwy comment that was right except that it said 'December bonus batch'. I fixed this by sending these members a corrected comment. -Mike (mike@librarything.com)

I only requested from the regular batch, got a
loser comment, and then two hours later, a congratulations for a regular batch book. Odd.

OK, so I guess the issue was that if you requested from only one batch you got a comment (win or lose) for both. We'll have to work around that next time. -Mike (mike@librarything.com)

Thanks for all your work on the ER program this month, Mike.
I got an erroneous note for the Bonus Batch (I didn't request it because it was USA only).
If you haven't read it already, many people are detailing their experiences with the comments here: http://www.librarything.com/topic/54047

Thanks Mike for doing the ER program this month. I don't believe I requested the bonus batch yet I still did get a message saying I didn't win. Then I received a message saying I did snag one in the Regular December ER. I can't wait to see next months batch. Keep up the great work!!!

Not only didn't I request a Bonus book, I never saw the Bonus book. I followed the link, which in the past led to a separate listing, and it took me to the list of regular books that said they were closed for requests.
They tell me that the Bonus book was mixed in with the list of regular books. You might want to separate the Bonus books out from the regular/closed list. Seeing the regular list with the words closed, doesn't make you want to look further.
I did get a sorry no book for the Bonus book, which as I said I didn't request.

Mike, thanks for stepping in for Abby for the ER program! I'm looking forward to the January batch as well :-)

I never even knew there was a bonus batch and I got a second "sorry" notice email for it. I don't think I ever got an announcement about a December bonus batch and I've grown to kind of rely on that for when to go look.

I didn't see anything either about a bonus batch until it was too late. Then again I thought that maybe I did and didn't realize I had clicked it. Sometimes I get so involved in just reading the information about a book that I don't realize what I am doing.

The Bonus book was mixed into the regular batch and it was added only 2-3 days after the regular batch so most people had a chance without needing to know about it.

Than that could have been me. I also do my choosing over a few days or weeks. That is why I figured I didn't remember specifically choosing that one.

What do we do if we "won" a book we didn't actually request? I selected a bunch of books early, but then narrowed it down to just the book about raising boys. I got a comment today saying I'd won Hands of my Father, which, while I had originally requested it, I unselected a day or two later after deciding I really wouldn't be interested in it enough to read and review it if I got it.

14> I'll start a thread offering it up. The first person to send me a comment with their address will get it. We'll switch the 'ownership' of it to the new person, so you won't be penalized for not reviewing it.
Child_of_Light, could you privately comment me your real name and address? I'll check with the publisher to see if they've sent it already. If they have, we'll figure it out from there.

I just want to mention that on the ER page at the top for the January books the deadline is left over from December. Not sure where to post this.
The deadline to request a copy is Wednesday, December 31st at 6pm EST.
