While catching up on blog feeds, I realized January 15 was the 90th anniversary of the Boston Molasses flood, in which a fairly large tank exploded, killing 21 and injuring about 150.
I haven't read Dark Tide: The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919 but it's now on my reading list.

It's a pretty good book, although I wish the author had included a technical reference section. I recently picked up a copy of The Given Day by Dennis Lehane, a fictional treatment of Boston that covers many of the same topics.

I, too, have read Dark Tide: the Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919. I found it fascinating. It has to be one of the wierdest disasters I've ever heard of.

When that title came up in another group recently, I was told that it's not a unique to Boston event. It has happened in Europe too.
