Kennedy's infamous brother in law was English actor Peter Lawford, part of the rat pack and good friends with Sinatra. In 1963 it was arranged that the President would visit California and stay the Sinatra home. Sinatra paid thousands to have his home remodeled. Robert Kennedy, long concerned about Sinatra's ties to organized crime, advised his brother not to stay there. Kennedy instead stayed at the home of Bing Crosby. Sinatra was outraged and kicked Lawford out of the rat pack. Lawford divorced the president's sister in 1966. Also, Lawford and another actor was arrested in a gay brothel in Australia as reported by Maureen O'Hara in her biography.
