TheOnlyMe joins 999, can it be done?

9 different books from 9 different categories by 9-9-09 seems a bit daunting. That's 81 books. I'm not sure if I'll manage it as the 75 books challenge seems a bit crazy to me but I'll give it a shot.

My catagories thus far...

1. Laura Ingalls Wilder- 9/9 chosen
2. Biographies/Autobiographies
3. Lucy Maud Montgomery - 8/9 chosen
4. Recommended by friends - 4/9
5. Stephanie Plum series - 9/9 (probably more)
6. Harry Potter - 10/9 chosen including all 7 of the series plus 3 companion books
7. Classics - 5/9 chosen
8. Chick Lit/Romance from my collection 0/9 chosen
9. Randomosity - 3/9 chosen

Category 8 edited out of necessity.
Category 4 edited out of necessity.
Category 5 edited because I realized, there was only 1, maybe 2 books I REALLy wanted to read and I've been meaning to get to the Stephanie Plum series since high school.
Category 9 edited when I realized, I'd never fill it.

I reserve the right to edit my choices of books and categories at any time. I also reserve the right for books to be of any length.

If it helps, you can give yourself to the end of the year. The 'by 9-9-09' is an extra challenge some people have given themselves. 999 really stands for 9 books in 9 categories in 09.

I think I may just need until Dec 31st LoL but its worth trying for less. I'm already looking forward to my vacation in August where I'll try to read a book a day. Fresh air and no television do wonders for reading!

Welcome to the 999 challenge!! I am almost 2 weeks into it and am enjoying it immensely. In most of my categories, I think I've already got enough books for a 10/10/10 challenge for 2010.

This is all made just a bit easier by the fact that overlaps are allowed. Up to 9 of them, I think.

For instance, one of my categories is Chicago books and one is books about disasters. If I read a book about a disaster in Chicago, such as the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, I can count it twice.

Overlaps like that are allowed??? If that's true then geez, things are a lot easier! Most of the YA I want to read falls under classics as well. 9 overlaps would bring it down to 73 which would be right in pace with the 75 book challenge. Although, I'd like to see if I could read 81 different books. We shall see.

Good luck with your goals linda. I'll have to go seek out your thread to see what your goals are.

I see you have picked out Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights for your Classics categoriy. Me too! I have uane Eyre scheduled sometime around the end of March and Wuthering Heights around mid-july maybe we can do them at the same time and help each other through. What do you think? I've never read Black Beauty either and would be willing to change one of my other classics to it.
Let me know what you think.

That sounds good to me! I don't really have a set order for my books other than starting with HP and clearing out some romances by June. That reminds me, I need to edit my categories. I figure, I have about 30 romances not cataloged that I need to read and purge. Rarely do I keep a romance novel... and they make for great currency at the used book store. I have ones I KNOW I bought new almost 10 years ago and I have yet to read. I'm just not looking forward to changing the tickers.

Black Beauty is a book my mom told me I *HAD* to read this year. She bought it for me when I was 8, it has gone unread for 14 years.

Okay, TOM, I'm taking on Black Beauty too!
how about September?
That makes Jane Eyre in March, Wutherung Heights in mid-July, and Black Beauty in September. Is that okay with you?

Early September? If so, that's fine by me. I want to save most of my more fluffy reading for the fall since I'm expecting multiple lit classes but it's a book that should only take me a few days of dedication.

I'm definitely not scheduling any books for August as that's my vacation month during which I will disappear for a week and come out well read LoL

It is so hard to resist the urge to splurge on buying the box sets of Anne of Green Gables and Little House on the Prairie. I want to read them so bad but I can't justify the cost. Must wait until summer. Must buy used.

Major edits going on in here. If anyone can point out any errors in series order or missing books, that'd be great! Group 5 also needs filling in. ^_^

TOM

the Harry Potter series goes in this order
Sorcerer's Stone
Chamber of Secrets
Prisoner of Azkaban
Goblet of Fire
Order of the Phoenix
Half Blood Prince
Deathly Hallows

FOr the companion books, one I think should be Tales of Beedle the Bard since it is actually mentioned in Deathly Hallows.

There we go! All fixed and I have NO clue how they got all mixed up because I KNOW chamber of secrets comes after sorcerer's stone LoL

I also added the companion pieces. The Tales of Beadle the Bard is on there as well as fantastic beasts and quiddich.... all should be fun, enjoyable reads.

Classics could get daunting.

Does anyone else notice my penchant for juvenile/YA lit?

TOM
Your list is really coming along and don't let anyone tell you that your penchant for YA lit is bad. You read what you want to read and enjoy it. Otherwise, what's the good of reading it? I see so many on your list that I hsve read or am reading so we'll be talking I'm sure.

Happy reading! Cheli
