What are you reading in February?

I finished my lunchtime book over the weekend, so today I'll be starting The Children of Henry VIII at lunch. I also bought The Book of Lost Things on Friday, so that I don't have to ignore that thread anymore. I only got a few pages read over the weekend, but I'll give myself a couple hours this evening before starting on my next cross-stitch.

I am still reading Desperation and I am loving it. Just the right amount of gore and horror!

I finished Brisingr! Yeah! I'm still reading Harry, a History, Forever Princess, The Classroom of Choice, and something else that I can't remember.

I'm reading Track of the Cat by Nevada Barr. Its actually her first Anna Pidgeon novel but I've read almost all the others, i just was lucky to come across this at half price books

I'm waiting for my Jan. ER book and reading my textbooks. I feel like Hermione, as I've read some of them from cover to cover already. I've read Mass Media in a Changing World already and I'm working on Communicating for Results, Managing Human Behavior in Public and Nonprofit Organizations, and La civilisation en francaise I.

I got Black Powder War, The Secret Life of Bees, The Mysterious Benedict Society, and Coraline at the library today. But I can't decide which one I want to start first!

I'm still reading Phineas Finn. I'm reading a lot less these days because I can knit again! (yay)

I finished Coraline and started The Mysterious Benedict Society.

I finished Harry, A History last night. I liked it and the friendships did remind me of all of you. Thanks to DH I found all of you since I had to talk to someone about it, but it would have been so much fun to have been here before guessing things and getting excited about everything. I found the chapters on wizard rock and fan fiction kind of boring, but I loved hearing about how the first book was picked up and published.

Next I have decided on a comfort reread: The Westing Game. It was the hot book to read when I was in sixth grade back in the dark ages :)

I am currently reading the birth book, becoming a mother, diary of a baby, what to expect when you're expecting, and the outstretched shadow. looking at that list, I need to work on finishing one book before picking up another.

Im reading Lyra's Oxford, but I will finish that one quickly bcause its so short.

I started rereading Deathly Hallows last night! I'm in the midst of chapter three. I'm going to stop after chapter four to write about it on the right discussion thread here. I don't imagine I'm going to read any more than that of it tonight though, because I'm starting to read Hunted tonight! *dances* I'm so happy that I have tomorrow off work. :)

I've got to finish at least one or two of the books I'm already reading before I pick up another.

I received a "suspicious" looking package yesterday from across the pond. It was my ER book from December, The Sonnet by Warwick Collins. I'm looking forward to reading it.

#11: I guess maybe I wasn't quite as interested in those chapters as others, but I still found it all enjoyable. I especially liked reading about the Chinese "sequels"!

I've got Harry, A History on order, so should be seeing it soon.

I also have a number of books checked out from the library, but haven't been able to pick up anything more mentally stimulating than Serenity: Better Days lately.

How did you like that foggi? I was looking at those the other day, but didn't know if I would enjoy them.

#18 -- It was pretty good. Helps if you love the TV series and the movie, of course. I think I would have had trouble following it otherwise.

That's what I've seen in others reviews. I didn't want to pick it up and hate it since I love the TV series.

The dialogue really has the feel of the TV series, for the most part. And the characters look the same -- you can tell that the graphic novels are based on the characters and sets from the show.

#9 - I thought Fablehaven was really cute. I've been meaning to get to the other ones in that series!

I'm still reading What is the What. It's really really good but it sort of makes me feel like crying.... I'll definitely need something lighthearted or funny to read next!

I've just gotten the second book in the Fablehaven series; it's one of a slew of series I'm in the middle of right now. Let's see, HP (still just under a hundred pages away from the end of 5), Marked, Foundling, Fablehaven, and we also just picked up The Time Travelers. I've got The Reincarnationist and its sequel, I stopped at Farmer Boy in the Little House series but finally got them all and need to start that one again, and I've just found my copy of Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator to follow up my Chocolate Factory read last week. Not to mention my homework reading and writing...

just came back from the library with a book called Mortal Coils by Eric Nyland. I picked it up on the spur of the moment cause I liked the name and the picture on the cover. It seems very interesting so far

I just received my Jan. ER book, The Judging Eye in the mail today! Hopefully, I'll be able to start it this week.

I started The Mysterious Benedict Society yesterday and I love it so far =)

I thought it was a lot of fun!

Another vote for loving The Mysterious Benedict Society :) I've heard that the sequel isn't quite as good, so I'm waiting on that until it's in paperback...

I didn't realize so many of us had read Benedict Society. I loved the first one. The second one is still fun, though it was mostly more of the same. If you liked the characters and the adventures though, I think you'll like the second one. Mostly it was a love of the characters that made me enjoy Perilous Journey.

Finished Waiter Rant Sunday afternoon, and am almost finished with No Graves As Yet, which I'm enjoying. Next up will be Inkheart.

Also still slowly reading Choosing Rest, and listening to Through a Glass, Darkly, as well as reading several pregnancy books.

I started Crocodile on the Sandbank tonight. It's great! I especially loved the beginning when she is describing herself to the guy that has proposed. I couldn't help but laugh aloud.

HOORAY! There's no fictional character I love more than Amelia, not even Harry!

Series stats? Where is that feature -- I haven't heard of it!

If you go to your stats, the second possible stat type is "series coverage". It lists all your books that are part of series and you can click on the series title to find out which books you're missing. It's simultaneously wonderful and horrible!

I started my rereads of Deathly Hallows and The Book of Lost Things. I had forgotton how good Deathly Hallows was!

It's okay Renald. I never reread books because I used to only read one book at a time. But now that I've discovered I can read more than one, I've decided to reread it. I should probably reread the whole series. I'm sure I've forgotten a lot of little details.

I get the gardening books this time of year just to look at the pictures and sigh.
I finally finished Dealing with Dragons after many detours into other books. I thought I had read it before, but I really don't remember it. I'm now wondering if I had read Talking with Dragons without knowing it was part of a series.

Up next, I think I'll read Matilda. I'm trying to see if it would be a good read aloud after I finish Pippi Longstocking with my 6 year old.

But don't hold me to it. I distract easily.

I love dealing with dragons and the rest of its series, such great books.

Matilda was my favorite book when I was about 7, so I think it would probably make an excellent read-aloud.

I really liked Skulduggery Pleasant. It was such a weird book, but I loved it! I don't remember the girl's name now (it's late) but I liked her attitude.

I finished my ER copy of Bring on the Blessings, and I'm wondering if there's going to be a sequel. It has that feel. And then at the book fair tonight I broke down and bought Dewey: The Small Town Library Cat. I'm really enjoying it so far.

I'm reading Nickled and Dimed in America, I just had to read some non fiction after finishing Lolita.

I am reading Ironside, Desperation, and rereading HP/SS. I need a comfort read.

I stayed away from LT all day yesterday because I spent the entire day reading. I finished rereading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and have many threads to post on about it now. I should finish Hunted by tomorrow night.

I'm reading You Suck right now. I needed something to laugh with after What is the What - very good book, BTW, but definitely worthy of my "lachrymose" tag!

I'm in that rare state of being where I have no work to do, my boss is gone and it's quiet, so I'm on Project Gutenberg, reading Grimm's Fairy Tales, as a supplement to The Book of Lost Things (which I should finish today...the story part at least, the extra stuff I'll finish tomorrow!)

I'm reading Inkdeath, Marley and Me and may start on Coraline

I'm a total mess this month. I've only read about 10 books so far this year, whereas last year I was already in the late teens :( I'm still trying to finish Brisingr wich is dull as wax so far, but I have made a pact with myself that I will no longer abandon books no matter how tedious. I'm also reading Treasure Island, Inkheart (which is really cool because it motivates me to read other stuff referenced in the story), Let the right one in which is really creepy and wonderful and gross, I'm also looking through Discover England, Exploring London, and my $25 and under London restaurant book. I also picked up Sicilian Revenge wich is a (don't laugh) a Harlequin Presents and (don't laugh) I collect them.

I finished Crocodile on the Sandbank tonight. It was great! Lovely characters! Definitely a standout in its genre. I'll be collecting the rest of the series now, of course.

I've begun rereading The Book Thief for February's group read. I'm glad I am rereading it so close to having reread The Book of Lost Things, because I've been trying to make a favorite book list through the alphabet (favorite book beginning with A, then B, etc -- K's idea) and I just cannot make up my mind between the two. This will either help me choose or force me to realize there is no choosing one.

Lucky you. There are lots of books in the Amelia Peabody series. My mother likes her other series, Vicki Bliss. I haven't tried that one yet, but some of Amelia's descendants make an appearance in her latest Vicki Bliss mystery.

Finally finished OotP; moving on to HBP. Will hopefully make a good deal of progress on it this weekend, as Mare and I have decided to spend it at home playing animal crossing and reading as we recover from the car accident we were in this morning. Fun times.

I just finished Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat and I loved it. Maybe it's because I love libraries and I love cats!

We're ok; I've got a broken finger and a sprained one, and a ginormous bump on the head, but as I didn't wake up thinking I'm a parrot, or speaking a language I've never learned, I don't think my brains are scrambled. Other than that, just a few scrapes and bruises. Mare is fine besides some achiness, and the car took the worst of it. Don't know how long it'll be in the shop, or if it'll be worth rebuilding the front end. At least it was the other guy's fault.

cmbohn, I've got Dewey and if it's a quick read, I may bust that one out alongside Half-Blood Prince :)

Finished The Book of Lost Things last night. This weekend will be devoted to a cross-stitch project I'm working on and then Monday I'll start on The Disappearance by Efrem Sigel. I've figured out that the best way for me to be able to read and sew is to read for 2-2 1/2 hours when I get home from work and then cross-stitch for the next 2-3 hours (until I get too tired to do it without messing up!)

bib, you should get a book seat! I wish I'd seen this one before I got the book peeramid; i like mine, but would ahve preferred the truly hands-free function of the book seat, and would gladly have spent the extra ten dollars if i'd known.

ooh I want one of those! I should be finished reading Ironside tonight hopefully. I am not really making any progress on Desperation because I had to take a break from the gore. But I think I am going to start 3 willows: the sisterhood grows next.

#80: That thing is cool laia! I just might have to look into that for my knitting and other random projects. unfortunately it won't work for the cross-stitching because you have to watch what you're doing with that, following a pattern and counting stitches and stuff.

My nose is stuck in CUlture and Values: A Survey of the Humanities and GO! With Microsoft Office 2007 Introductory I am finding concentrating on midterm study harder than I thought. Hopefully I will be reading a book for leisure by tonight... at the latest tomorrow morning.

I recently read Lolly Willowes and The Getting of Wisdom recently, I am now reading Lark Rise to Candleford for a group read and my early reviewer book The Sailor from Gibraltar which is lovely but haunting and sad.

I'm trying to read The World According to Garp. I really like John Irving, but my reading seems to be on a go-slow at the mo. Hrmph.

I haven't read it in a long time, but I seem to remember sections of Garp being slow. It's worth the read, though. There is a bit more than the movie explained I saw the movie first, then picked up the book. I think I would have understood the movie better if I had read the book first.

I was really anxious about seeing the movie of The Cider House Rules, and now I wish I hadn't. I thought that Irving writing the screenplay would leave me in safe hands, but in my humble opinion, he left out all the substance of his own novel.

I've really enjoyed all the Irving I've read, although Until I Find You is my least favourite thus far.

I have to find something new to read tonight.

I finished Escape from Slavery today. It was actually pretty good.

I'm going to read The Book Thief next.

I'm going to read The Book Thief, too; partly because it's the February read, and partly for school :) I love having an avid reader for a history teacher!

I'm also working on Half-Blood Prince and I think I'm really appreciating it for the first time. It moves at such a great clip, and the focus isn't on any one group of characters - all of the main players receive at least a bit of time in the spotlight, and the relationships are all starting to feel a little less nonsense-teen-angsty and more reasonably awkward but nevertheless real almost-adult teen.

I'm reading Reading Lolita in Tehran in Sydney.

I finished Ironside yesterday and started reading 13 little blue envelopes last night. I onl got 2 or 3 chapters in but I think I am really going to like it.

Besides The Book Thief I'm also picking up The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane this week.

I've read the first three chapters of Harry, A History, despite having lots of library books that I need to get read before their due dates. I find that I can't read this book straight through, because it brings back all of the excitement of discovering and getting caught up in the Harry Potter series, and I need breaks to calm down or to reminisce. We'll have to do this as a group read at some point.

I finished A Marvelous Work and A Wonder today and Fablehaven: The Rise of the Evening Star. I'm still reading The Trial (and not enjoying it, really. I hope it gets better.) and March - Brooks which is slow, but getting more interesting.

I finished The Graveyard Book Monday and I don't think I said anything about it. I really liked it too! I think I liked Coraline a little more, but both are really great.

I've hardly read a word since then, what with packing and all. The only time in my life I will ever wonder if one really can have too many books.

I loved Matilda. It came out around my birthday one year, and so I had a copy from my dad with a lovely message inside. I love it.

You know, Roald Dahl was the first person who's death I cried about.

Oh, my husband found this great book by Roald Dahl about his experiences in WWII. It must have been very funny, because he laughed and laughed reading it. Have any of you read his adult books? I love his short stories. Umbrella Man and Unexpected Tales - Dahl are the ones I read. I can't find the title of the other book! It was with the autobiographies.

I just finished Mr Darcy's Diary last night. It wasn't super fabulous, but it was fun and now I want to watch Pride and Prejudice again! I liked the ending of the book.

Hey, those last few books sound interesting. Might have to read them soon, especially Book of Lost Things.
My books this month: Adoration of Jenna Fox, artemis fowl lost colony and eats shoots and leaves. (Apparently I'm a stickler when it comes to punctuation. who knew?)

Almost finished with Inkheart, which I am really enjoying! Not sure what my next fiction read will be, but it won't be the next in the trilogy, as there's a waiting list at the library.

I finished the audio of Through a Glass, Darkly and have realized two things: 1) I like reading this series more than listening, and 2) the routine lack of complete resolution/justice being handed out is frustrating. I am now three chapters into The Collectors on audio, but am not a fan so far, so I may switch out tomorrow.

MrsG, I really liked Watership Down. One of my favorite parts was the discussion of how when humans say they like winter, it's really the comforts of winter they enjoy -- snuggling in the warmth of a fire with hot cocoa. Whereas for the animal folk, real winter is a trial to endure.

Grkmwk, I'm glad you like Inkheart! Don't you just love Dustfinger? He is one of my favorite characters ever.

I finally started/finished Heroes of the Valley. I thought it was ok. It was better than some of the stuff Stroud has written, but it wasn't quite as good as The Bartimeus Trilogy. I was really enjoying it up until the end when he threw in a curve that seemed to come from nowhere. I won't spoil it for anyone who is planning on reading the book, but it just threw me.

lefty, I found Dustfinger to be a very intriguing character, one whom I could never predict. I feel there is a depth to him that wasn't sufficiently mined in Inkheart, so I'm hoping I'll get to know him better in the next two books.

I picked up People of the Book from my library book stack this morning, and despite only getting a few pages into it at lunch today, I'm already intrigued and can't wait to read more!

I'm reading The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks (which apparently doesn't touchstone correctly unless you don't include the hyphenated last name in the brackets). I've only just started it, but I've heard good things about it from friends. I'm hoping it will really wow me, because it seems like the last five or six books I've read have been mediocre.

Well, I finished Science Fair today... er... yesterday, and I think I'm going to be reading Skullduggery Pleasant next. Science Fair was ok, but it was nowhere near as good as their Peter Pan series. It really kind of made me think of Big Trouble, only for kids. Not that that's a bad thing, but anyway. It was ok but not great.

I am so happy! I'm reading The Book of lost things and I can't put it down! It has been a long time since I've felt this way, so I was begining to think that I was growing tired of reading! Hurrah!

I started reading Along came a Spider, Suge I think it just might be the time of year because lately I haven't been able to finish a single book. I start it and then can't finish or it doesn't grab my attention like other books I have read. I am hoping to get out of my readin rut soon...

I finished The book of Lost things very late last night. Excellent story! In fact it made me think of a new thread I would like to start. Sorry.

I picked up The next big thing

I'm in another one of those periods where there isn't much for me to do at work. I enjoy them while they're here, by doing some reading on Project Gutenberg. I finished Grimm's Fairy Tales today and now I'm starting Middlemarch, which I imagine will take awhile!

bib, I'm glad to know you enjoyed People of the Book. My coworker was quite excited today when she found out that I'm reading it, as her book club just discussed it last week, and she has lots of information she wants to share/discuss when I'm finished.

As I was not enjoying The Collectors as my audio lunchtime book, I swapped in favor of Blue Balliet's The Wright 3. I just love youth lit!

#153 - I love Blue Balliet! Random factoid that you'll appreciate - The Robie House in Chicago now does "Wright 3" tours due to the popularity of that book!

I finished reading Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers which was morbidly entertaining and now I just started The Last Cato (on bib's suggestion!)

Finished Nixonland, and am now rereading Little House On The Prairie for the remainder of the evening.

stiff was the common reading for the freshmen at my school this year. a lot of people had problems with it, too morbid and it grossed a lot of people out.

#156 - Yeah, I suppose it does take a bit of a strong stomach. One of my friends in med school recommended it to me and a lot of my friends in my forensics class had read it. I think it's interesting in the way it raised questions about death and organ/body donation. The entertaining part was more in the authors writing style - it's a hard topic to keep lighthearted but she handled it well.

I just finished Chocolat. It is beautifully written. There are many differences from the movie, but I understand why they made the changes. The movie also makes it more of a love story while the book is more about belonging and hypocrisy.

My son is pushing The Demigod Files on me, so I'll read that next. It shouldn't take long.

I finished two short story collections lately and enjoyed them both - The Queen in Winter and Twelve Impossible Things Before Breakfast. The second one was all by Jane Yolen and would be a really fun one for girls. My 14 year old really liked it. The last story is a twist on Peter Pan that was really clever.

I finished The Mysterious Benedict Society yesterday. I loved it!

Wasn't it so good mindy? I thought it was very cute and clever.

Yes! Now I must continue and try to plow through my TBR pile... which will grow day by day.

I plowed through many of the books listed in post #44, though several of them are still awaiting my attention. Now I'm taking a break and reading Crocodile on the Sandbank. It feels almost decadent to be reading something that's not children's or YA.

I just finished The Uncommon Reader for my 999 challenge. I enjoyed it, but it really wasn't long enough for more than a fun idea.

I finished Forever Princess last night. Now I can focus on The Book Thief.

On another note, I ran into my old boss today who I've missed so much since she joined publishing. She took the book right from my arms, asked me how I liked it so far, and said she hadn't liked it at all. Thank you to my old boss for putting down Ophelia by Lisa Klein. I think I've read a mere thirty pages so far. ;)

I'm still only about 80 pages in to the book I started weeeeeeeeks ago (The world According to Garp). It's not that I don't like it, it's just that I can't seem to settle. Ho hum.

I loved Coraline. I just finished a book of short stories, Sherlock Holmes Through Time and Space.

I finished The Demigod Files and I have so many interesting books out of the library right now I'm having trouble deciding what to pick up next.

I often have that problem, JP. Right now, I just have so many good books from so many different sources that I have a hard time choosing. I'm reading The Curse of the Pharaohs right now, but I think that will be my last Amelia Peabody for a while -- I've got a lot of other stuff to get through.

I feel like I'm not really reading anything right now! :( I have like 8 books going, but going so slowly as to hardly notice any progress at all. Maybe I should take a day off. At worst, spring break is in less than 3 weeks.

The few pages I have read lately have been from The Magic Lands and The Book Thief.

I am having serious reading issues. I can seem to get into any book and I am very upset by this. My love of reading is suffering. I am hoping that if I do some rereads of my favorites it will get me back in the spirit to start reading something new. Along came a spider is really good so far but it just isn't holding my attention like I know it would if I was really in the mood to read. So I am going to sit it aside and start a reread of Twilight and one of the HP books. I am thinking Deathly Hollows.

I'm having the same problem. Lately I've been reading The Book Thief, but for AP Comp we have to read Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. It's only 91 pages long, but I don't want to read it really.

I had to read Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas for Western Classics II in college, and I really liked it. I hope you can finish it.

I'm having a similar but different problem lately. I know that if I pick up a book and read it I'll be able to get into it enough to finish it, but I just don't feel compelled to pick up any books at all.

I seem to do alright so long as I spend no more than one week on a book. Beyond a week and the book just seems to drag.

Espy, that the same problem I have been having I think I was over wording it though!

I finished my reread of The Book Thief last night and I now love it even more.

I have decided to read one HP book a month until the movie. Today I pulled out Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, opened it up, and noticed writing in it. It is signed by all my NY LT friends, and it brought back so many great memories! I am still hoping maybe we can do a mini midwest get together for the movie this summer. I want to meet more LT friends!

I've decided to completely ignore the pile of library books I took out in favor of a book I bought. I'm reading The Children of Odin by Padraic Colum. I realized all the books I took out were nonfiction, and I can't do nonfiction when I'm sleep deprived.

I've finished Nickel and Dimed and Bait and Switch, and I've started on The God Delusion this week.

I started The Science of Harry Potter yesterday, and so far, it's pretty good!

And I've just ordered that book from PBS, Cat. It looks very interesting!

I'm rereading Stone Butch Blues for school, and have started Azkaban Versus the Evil Librarians for fun. The one thing I'm noticing about the latter, though, is that children's/independent reader style large print makes it hard for me to read. It's like my eyes have to travel too far... I know that sounds stupid, but I can't explain it. Anyone know what I mean???

Hard to read regular-sized font after reading the large children's font? That's happened to me before.

I finished reading Ophelia by Lisa Klein earlier this week. It's a retelling of Hamlet from Ophelia's point of view. My old boss said she didn't like it. I really liked it, though. I love books about books! Perhaps some of you would enjoy it, too. It is a YA, I might point out.

Nope, it's actually hard for me to read the larger print. I think I tend to "read" in whole chunks of words, which is why I'm so fast, but when the print is that weird mid-size (not picture book size, but not standard adult size), it's like I can't get enough at once and my eyes "trip" over words.

I wonder if that's why I get so much out of authors who write in paragraph-long sentences... I have to deliberately slow my eyes down to take in smaller bits, and absorb more as a result.

Thats exactly what I do laia! Large print gives me a head ache.

I think I can say the same as MrsG in that case. It sounds like reading much in that size font for long would provide for a headache. A part of me wishes I had the same problem as you. I can read slow sometimes. I might ramble on for long sentences when I write and yet when it comes to reading sentences it's not quite the same. ;)

I finished Along came a Spider and am going to start Kiss the Girls later this afternoon after I get a few chores done!

I'm a couple chapters into Black Powder War.

I just asked my mom for The Book of Lost Things and Little, Big for my birthday, so I will probably get at least one of those.

190-194 -- Do u not embrace the comfortness of the larger print? Sometimes when you read it, is better for your eyes and imporves readability! I really like it much.

But seriously, I don't have a problem with reading larger font. I really just don't think about it when I read it. Your reasoning, Laia, for why you have problems reading it makes sense, though.

It just gives me a head ache.
