Just got three new books from Amazon. I've just taken a quick look at each, but here are my initial opinions:
The Survivors Club: The Secrets and Science that Could Save Your Life - This one is going to be excellent. Very professionally written with amusing touches.
Disasters Across Canada - Disappointing. Not well written.
Thredbo: A Tragedy Waiting to Happen and Other Australian Disasters - Looks like this one will be pretty good.

Let us know. I have been looking for The Survivors Club, but haven't seen it yet for evaluation.
P.S. Don't know if you knew, but you can create touchstones by using a single square bracket before and after a title, or a double square bracket before and after an author. Sometimes they actually work.

I've got The Survivors Club on reserve at the library but I think I may go out and get it. I've got a 30% off coupon and a gift card at Borders burning a hole in my pocket.
The Survivors Club is by Ben Sherman.
I'll be curious to see how this compares to The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes and Why by Amanda Ripley.

I'm not sure, but I think I tried touchstones on that entry and they didn't take. Oh, well.
I'll let you know what I think as I get into it. So far I like it better than the one by Amanda Ripley.

I recently finished reading The Good Pirates of Forgotten Bayous by Ken Wells.
Wells (who writes for The Wall Street Journal but is from Louisiana) writes about the devastation hurricane Katrina caused in St. Bernard Parish, a rural parish (what the rest of us would call a county) below New Orleans. He follows a few locals through the storm and afterward; some of the accounts are hair-raising.
