German and Central European Manuscript Illumination Exhibit

The exhibit features 24 works which illustrate the magnificent artistic quality of book painting over eight centuries in Germany and Central Europe. Manuscripts and works of art highlight Carolingian and Ottonian Illumination, Romanesque and Gothic Styles, and illuminations from the late Middle Ages through the period around the Invention of Printing. The exhibit also features a recently restored painting showing the Crucifixion by Albrecht Altdorfer.
