The True Heart

For the sake of thoroughness, here's a thread for Sylvia Townsend Warner's The True Heart. The problem is, I haven't quite figured out what I thought of it, nor do I know what to say about it yet. I can say that it's loosely based on the story of Eros and Psyche in Apuleius's The Golden Ass. Warner cleverly names her characters Eric and Sukey (Eros and Psyche). Venus is Mrs. Seaborn (Venus, born from the sea). Juno is Mrs. Oxey (Juno is described as "ox-eyed" in ancient poetry). Etc. Clever, witty, often beautiful and lyrical. But so far: huh?

Okay, here's an attempt to say something about The True Heart.
