Can you believe that it is already March? I can't! LOL. Where has the time went, seriously? And when I look outside here, it doesn't look like March.

Well, at least not like March in Utah! Last year, we had 2 feet of snow in our yard up until early May. This year, all 2 feet that we had at one point is long gone, and now we get to stare at gray/tan dead grass until we either get more snow (very likely, it is Utah) or spring comes and it begins to grow and turn green. Sigh. I hate the in between seasons-- you know, when the ground is dead, but no snow covers it?

Okay, long ramble over nothing. Moving on!

Finished Trouble in High Heels. It wasn't what I was expecting--- good, quick, sweet romance. Who knows, I may go back and read some of her previous work.

Moving on to Seducing a Scottish Bride by Sue-Ellen Welfonder. I've had this itch for a scottish romance, so here's my cure (I hope!) Also, starting on a mystery for my 999 Challenge, A Prisoner of Birth by Jeffrey Archer.

So, what is everyone reading this week? A new bestseller, an old favorite?

I can't believe it is March already as well. I'm in California & this weekend we were in the 80's & now today its cool, cloudy & chance of rain? The weather has been pretty weird lately here.

Well, I'm almost finished with The Rest Falls Away and I am glad I picked up the 2nd book in the series Rises the Night because Im really enjoying it so far. It really does remind me of the Buffy Series.

scrpo - goes to show you what living on the other side of the country is like, here in Massachusetts it is cold and we're in the middle of a snowstorm. If it wasn't for how much it hurts, I'd almost be grateful I was stuck home from work today with a nasty cough.

However, it has given me the opportunity to finish of Enchanting the Lady and I think I'll probably start Dark Needs at Night's Edge by Kresley Cole next. Ideally I'd love to sleep but every time I lie down I just start hacking more *sigh*

I finished The Dubious Miss Dalrymple by Kasey Michaels and started Of human bondage by W. Somerset Maugham.

This season is just flying by and I running to catch up. But I pamper myself with a little reading!

I just finished Broken wing by Judith James and liked it.
Now I will continue with Shana Abé's Queen of Dragons.

It's windy and chilly down here in Texas - although we're supposed to get up into the 70's tomorrow, thankfully. This is such a tough time of year when it's cold and gray. I guess I just don't like the cold. I'd much rather stretch out on my sunny patio with a good book and some iced tea than huddle in the house under blankets. :)

And hope you get to feeling better soon, DL!

Here in Maine we just got about 12 inches of blowing, cold snow! I hope California warms up as I am heading to Palm Desert on Thursday! Spring is supposed to be only three weeks away but I don't think we will see grass until May! Keep well everyone.
I am starting Mary Balogh's new book First Comes Marriage. Then I will be on to Samantha James,Bride of a Wicked Scotsman.

pmpayne, I'm sure Palm Desert will be nice later this week. Here in the San Diego area, the temps today were in the low 70s and it was mostly sunny with some low clouds in the afternoon. Inland areas have been much warmer, so you might even be able to break out the shorts while you're visiting :-)

I like the look of the new Balogh. I'll probably pick it up the next time one of the major bookstores offers a discount.

Yesterda I finished Seducing a Scottish Bride - the author had potential but I thought the plot was a bit forced. Then I moved on to A Rake's Guide to Pleasure by Victoria Dahl which I got based on recommendations from this site! I really enjoyed it. The heroine was really enjoyable and its one of those books that makes me think "what would i have done if I lived in that era and didn't have much money?". I'll definitely read more of Victoria Dahl.

Not sure what I'm going to read next, my tbr stack is too big.

After finishing the IAD series I found myself kind of stuck as to what to read, just because I found Ms Cole's characters so enthralling and her books so passionate, would anything come up to compare???

So I started Cupid's Melody by Karen Fox and so far it is very good, not as intense as the IAD but it is still a fantasy romance, with the hero being a very dishy Faery! :)

#10 reesa - I've been interested in both those books and have them on my TBR list, I've never read anything by Welfonder, (but I love the look of the cover of that book). I hear Devil in a Kilt is good, so I was going to give that a try of hers as well. Glad you liked A Rake's Guide to Pleasure, that looked good too!

March is a crazy month here in New York. Yesterday we had about 6 inches of snow & right now its 12 degrees. I think its supposed to be in the 50's by the weekend.

I enjoyed the snow yesterday (even shovelling) and read Simply Perfect by Mary Balogh. I enjoyed it, but at first it was hard to keep up with so many Bedwyns. I'm now halfway through The Mulberry Tree by Jude Deveraux. I'll probably read a mystery next.

>scrpo, I am desperately waiting on payday, so I can order the MacCarrick Trilogy as I have been told that they are very good, and like you I really enjoy her writing. I have finished Cupid's Melody and it was a light and charming story.
I've now decided to read Share The Darkness by Jill Monroe, its actually a Mills and Boon 'Blaze' book, I dont read them very often and only have a select few in my library but this one looks quite good.

Mar 3, 2009, 6:41 pm

>emmie & scrpo, I read If You Dare last week & loved it. The next two MacCarrick books just arrived today. I'm sure they will be equally good.

I just finished The Viscount's Addiction by Scottie Barrett and The Accidental Countess by Melissa Schroeder and I was very pleasantly surprised by both. Now I'm off to find everything else Barrett has written. Schroeder is a hit and miss author for me, but this one was very good.

Next up is Lucy Monroe's historical, Take Me, which I think is the follow-up to Tempt Me. I hope I'm not reading the series out of order.

Darn it, CC, I hate it when you recommend an author who is new to me, and she doesn't have ebooks! :-> Scottie Barrett only has one book on Fictionwise.com, and it's a pre-order (Heat of the Knight). I've ordered it.

I haven't been posting for a while so here's what I've been reading in the meantime:

Sins of Lord Easterbrook by Madeline Hunter (loved it!)

The Seventh Suitor by Laura Matthews (I have only one more unread Laura Matthews and I'm in mourning; I love her Regencies)

What I Did For Love by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (I know a lot of people didn't like this one, but it satisfied my SEP craving.)

My Wicked Fantasy by Karen Ranney (excellent! It got carried away in some parts, but it reminded me a lot of good Judith Ivory.)

The Kissing Game by Suzanne Brockmann (a re-release and just okay)

>mamalaz, So glad you liked it - each one gets better. My fav has to be the 3rd one - I really enjoy the heroine & I love Ethan the oldest brother.

Finished Rises the Night and I couldnt turn the pages fast enough, so good :) I ordered the other 3 books in the series lol..
I am now starting Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning and hopefully that will a page turner as well.

Ana! Welcome back, my twin! :)

I see a couple of books in your recent reads I haven't read, either! I'm off to find the Matthews and Ranney books.

I was one of those who didn't like the SEP book, but I will still buy anything she writes. One so-so book in a multitude of gems isn't so bad.

I have been so busy with school, that I've read a grand total of two books in the past two weeks! Luckily, with how little time I actually seem to have to read books of my choosing, both of the books I did have a chance to read were really, really good. I finished Broken Wing by Judith James which was very much in the vein of Lisa Kleypas (though admittedly not quite as good); and then I finished up Patricia Briggs Bone Crossed which I also really enjoyed. Only now I have to wait a very long time to read the next installment :|

CC, I forgot to mention that the Hunter book has a slight paranormal plot line. It's not giving anything away to say that he senses other people's emotions, and has trouble handling it. Even though I do like out-and-out paranormals, I normally don't like it when it's an added element in a historical, but it really worked for me in this one. I know that's an issue for you, though, so wanted to mention it, since the blurb that got me to buy the book didn't mention it.

(Edited because I accidentally said it was the Ranney book at first, when it was actually the Hunter.)

I've fallen a bit behind this month, but I'll catch up!

Just finished Seducing a Scottish Bride, and I hate to say it, but it feel short of my original expectations. I just didn't feel the connections between the characters very often, and the story switched from building up reeeaaally slowly (most of the book), and when it finally picked up the pace, suddenly the book was over. I gave it 3 stars. It wasn't terrible, but I probably won't read it again. However, I may try another one of her books in the future.

Moving on to the first in a series that I've heard a lot of rave reviews about-- The Smoke Thief by Shana Abe. I'm only about 50 pages in, but so far I am enthralled. Very good book, I have a feeling I'm going to have to run out to the library this weekend to find the next books.

Ana, I read the Hunter book, and loved it. The amount of paranormal in it was about as much as I can handle. :)

I have a new author to add to my favorite/auto buy list: Shana Abe. I absolutely LOVED her first Drakon book, The Smoke Thief (my first 5 star, perfect rating, in almost a month and a half!).

I'm hooked-- I have to find her previous books, along with the other three books in the Drakon series. I really wanted to work on my TBR pile here at home this month, but I don't think that is going to happen, at least, not as much as I had hoped. Bright and early Saturday morning, I'm heading off to first the library, then B&N, to find the next two books in the series. I've got to know what will happen next, and I really want to read Zane's story (book 2, The Dream Thief.

Okay, happy rave over.. for now!

Moving on to a historical that has been in my pile for a while--The Seduction of an Unknown Lady by Samantha James.

On a side note, I'm very happy with this month's Early Review selection-- Passion Unleashed by Larissa Ione, book three in the trilogy that comes out the end of this month, is part of the choices. I really hope I get one, but I'm not sure if the ER 'Gods' (as the group jokingly calls them sometimes) would be kind enough to grace me twice in a row (From February's batch, I'm suppose to be receiving Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand). But I can hope, right?

29Jenson_AKA_DL
Mar 6, 2009, 6:51 am

TBQ - I requested Passion Unleashed as well. I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us. I didn't get anything from the February batch :( But, that should just give me time to catch up on some of my TBR pile. It has now grown to a very alarming 280+

Mar 6, 2009, 10:18 am

I finished Thigh High last night & I have narrowed my next read down to 3 books:

Crash Into Me by Jill Sorenson (new to me author; have read great reviews about this book)

Prime Objective by Ginna Gray

Hold Back the Dark by Eileen Carr

Has anyone read any of these?

31The_Book_Queen
Mar 6, 2009, 10:38 am

DL, I swear, our book tastes are eerily similar sometimes! LOL. I too will keep my fingers crossed for us. I think we have a shot. Wow, 280? Thats' about double my stack! And I thought mine was alarming...

>BB, Sorry, I haven't read any of those three. I don't believe I've even heard of them. But I'm sure that if you wait a bit, someone else in the group will have some feedback on them! :-D

I finished my Watchmen re-read and then read Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase this week.

I really enjoyed Lord of Scoundrels, although I wouldn't say it was the Greatest Romance Novel Ever like a lot of people have said. Definitely a 5 star book though. I liked the fact that the hero was the one with all the insecurities for a change. I also liked that he was not classically handsome (he even had a big nose!). The heroine was pretty no-nonsense and comfortable with who she was. When life hands her lemons, she doesn't spend all her time bemoaning her fate, but instead finds a way to make things work for her.

The other day, I finished The Seduction of an Unknown Lady and I loved it-- It had been a while since I'd read a Samantha James book, I almost forgot how much I enjoy them! :D

Yesterday, I started and finished another great book, Passion Unleashed by Larissa Ione. (Thanks to Hachette publishing for sending me an early reviewers copy, wasn't expecting it!). It is now officially my favorite Demonica book (so far, of course). I LOVED reading Wraith's story. I cried, I laughed, and I needed a constant supply of ice water and a fan to get through the steamy scenes. In other words, perfect-- 5 stars!

Now I'm taking a very brief break before jumping back into my towering romance TBR and instead I'm going to work on a few from the YA side of the room: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I've heard a lot about it, and my one friend said I should read it. It sounds kind of interesting, and you know that it's hard for me to turn down a book, any book!

Also, almost through with the mystery, A Prisoner of Birth. It's actually really good. :)

Went to Barnes&Noble hungry last night, and I bought like I was at the grocery store!

Read Lost & Found by Jacqueline Sheehan, a dog-centric semi-mystery/suspense novel set on Peaks Island, ME. Nice easy read; not much romance, but a lot of interesting characters, and some growth. Oh, and a lovely, big, black labrador. Finished this at about 1AM (or was it 2AM?).

Just now finished Lisa Kleypas's Mine Till Midnight - had to go back and get the first Hathaway book after finishing Seduce Me at Sunrise awhile back. I still have 300 pages to go in A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Even though I'm in view of the finish line, my (reading) legs are really tired.

scrpo & mamalaz......I'm sure I will be completely engrossed in the MacCarrick brothers trilogy, when it gets here :)

In the meantime I have finished Share the Darkness and although it was a very good story the end seemed a bit rushed. Whilst waiting for the postman to deliver my eagerly awaited set of books I have started Your Bed Or Mine? by Kate Hoffmann another Mills and Boon Blaze, although they are keeping me going quite well.

Its been a paranormal weekend for me. I finished Lara Adrian's Kiss of Midnight. While I enjoyed the book I felt that there were a lot of plot lines, characters, aspects of the world, etc that reminded me too much of other paranormals (in particular Alexis Morgan's Paladin books). Although not as unique as other paranormals, I'll definitely read the next book in the series - first books in paranormal series are difficult because one has to balance the explanation of the paranormal world with character and plot development.

I also finished Nalini Singh's first book in her new Guild Hunter series, Angels' Blood. Definitely a very compelling first book - the world of archangels, vampires, etc was fascinating but I felt it lacked the heat and sensuality that is in her Psy Changeling series. This could be because the nature of the Psy is to not feel so touch is very important in their transformation. I'm hoping its not another author moving to urban fantasy under the guise of romance. The reason I'm a little concerned about this is because the side of the book does label this as urban fantasy, romance and the excerpt for the next book, although only one page, just has the hero/heroine from this book (more of a trait of urban fantasy than romance). I did enjoy this and will read the next one but it wasn't as compelling as I expected.
