I'm not looking at LT on my computer screen.

My 'puter sits in my living room (unless I am on my laptop) and on one side of me is my dining room and on the other side of the desk is my black couch complete a pile of clothes to be hung up. My couch or love seat always has a load of laundry on it to be folded or put away. I have two black wood bookcases and a pile of books in front of them. My son has taken apart my vacuum and left pieces is strategic places for him to attack since apparently it is actually a robot. He has cardboard bricks spread out from every corner of the room (another constant in my life) and today two coats happen to be on the floor in front of my closet instead of inside it. My entertainment center is black, also (notice a trend) and it's behind me and slightly to my right. It is also known as one of the only places in the house that Cole can't reach without detection so it has random 'needs to be out of the boy's hands but I'm too lazy to actually put them away' items such as scissors and Tylenol. Also it has pictures of the kids framed in black and red frames and black iron candle holders. Also My Chinese guard dogs which look like dragons done in green. They match my large handmade (but not by me, some chick at the Renaissance Festival) dragon picture done it green, black and iridescent tile thingies. I can't remember what it's called all I know is I can't use water or anything to dust it. Under my chair is the dog and one foot is on my huge bag of homeschooling books from the library and random workbooks. And sprinkled about are random kid cups, legos and a basket with dry cookie crunch cereal in it (Missie couldn't find a bowl *eye roll*) And the desk that I am sitting at is black wood also and covered in bills, two pop cans and other misc. junk.

So that is what I am seeing pretty much anytime I'm talking to you guys.
Would anyone else like to share their computer habitat?

Well, i'm usually on while at work, which is where i am now so i'll describe that. Currently to the left of my screen is a deposit slip that should be being entered into my computer but instead is just there to make it look like i'm entering it into the computer when i'm really typing to you lovely people. next to that is my phone which rings far too often, then my frog tape despencer a pile of papers that is my "to do" pile then my three whole punch around the corner of my desk then a "to file" pile and my stapler, followed by my black binders of rent paid for 15 of the properties that I manage and lastly on the edge is my printer, scanner, copier. that is all to my left. to my right and therefore the right of my computer screen are more deposit slips that need to be entered in and bills that need to be cut and forms that need to be filled out, and my calculator. directly in front of me is a cut out of a giant smiley face balloon and a cartoon that my co-worker wrote for me. I have a framed picture of my hubby and me cutting our wedding cake and a framed black and white photo of some woods on my walls.

That's about it. Now I really should enter in these deposits.

Hmm

I'll try and be brief:

At work: there are some windows that look out on other tall buildings and a rooftop garden. On my desk a little toy dinosaur and a toy moomintroll and a little bird and bottles of hand lotion, a pencil cup, lots of papers, a small globe and my ubiquitous cup of tea.

At home: In the office to the left there is Rom's tin robot collection and a collection of crazy little flip calendars from the 1950s and globes. Did I mention we are strange packrats. Behind me are the walls of books. Oh and a cup of tea.

On the laptop: I am generally in the living room where there are generally more books. Cosy chairs and 1-3 cosy cats often trying to share the lap with the laptop. A coffee table with books and need I say it - more tea.

Directly behind the computer on the wall are many family photos in seventeen frames, some holding multiple photos. My grandfather is sleeping in a chair outside the family cabin. (It's Aloft's favorite photo and she will sit on the computer to stare at it for hours. We half think she sees the ghost of a cat who died in it.) My cousin is playing his guitar at a llama show ten years ago and it reminds me his band has a concert tonight. All my cousins and I are piled up into a stone tub in winter clothes with one dog beside us while we make very strange faces fifteen years ago. There are some black and white photos. In some I see my mother and her sisters. Another shows my great grandmother around 1910 with two of her sisters dressed in very fancy clothes. There is a drawing of my grandfather from his twenties done in Japan when he was in the Navy.

To the left is the kitchen. The living room and kitchen are open without a wall in between them. The stove is between part of them, however. I can see someone standing in the kitchen making their late breakfast. The counter is it's usual old fashioned green. There are pretty lacey white curtains in the kitchen window. Closer to me at the border of the kitchen and living room is a phone, a pile of phone books on top of a filing cabinet, two broken pencil sharpeners, an antique wooden entertainment center, a dictionary, some containers of carpet freshener, and the wet cat food. There is also the garage door which is one of only two doors that are regular height in the house - the rest reach the ceiling, though this one does, too, because the ceiling slops down on this side of the room. I can reach up and touch the ceiling when standing from in front of the garage door. (While looking at this screen, I can even see the line where the wall ends and the ceiling begins.)

To my right is an antique lamp, our dvd stand which needs to be organized, the tv on a coffee table, a dvd player and vcr on top of the tv, the fireplace made into a heating stove which we haven't used in two years, an old brick from the chimney at the family cabin before the chimney was taken down since it was broken, and a window trapped in a corner that cries for a couch beside because it would be an excellent reading window as it has amazing lighting.

Work: To my left is a small section of desk with a purple mouse pad, my mouse and a phone. There's also a small votive and glass holder left here by the last person who had my job. My monitor is huge and sits on a couple old office supply catalogs because otherwise it's too low and makes my neck hurt. There's a birthday card just to the right of the monitor then a carousel with various work-related stamps, my Minnesota Vikings page-a-day calendar, a bottle of water and the "Desk Apprentice" from Staples, which holds all my office supplies and files I'm working on, then there's a ceramic rollerball thing that you put water in so you don't have to lick envelopes, a flower arrangement from our volunteer event two weeks ago, and a gigantic printer. That's just my desk and the only part of the room that's "mine".

Home: I sit on my couch with my laptop, directly across from the couch are a couple large windows, to the left is my papasan and a floor lamp and to the right is my armchair. The TV sits in a corner, visible from the couch but not the focal point of the room. Bookshelves line the wall to my right and my bed is directly behind me.

I diagram of a sharks anatomy, the cover from the first copy of goblet of fire I ever bought (it broke off so I cut Harry and the words HARRY POTTER and taped them to the wall, I have a black and white (duh) pic of Titanic as seen from Queenstwon, There is a clipping of an article a bout Steph Meyer, There are two book marks that Kerian made me with my favorite hegs (yum). A bookmark that Mr. A. sent me (he was my secret santa Mrs.D I swear!!!!!) I have tatoos and stickers of Breaking Dawn related stuff, I have pictures of my dogs and my prized shark model collection. There's alot more but I gotsta go!!

My whole house is a mess right now. I will tell you about the study, which is where my computer is. Espy may tell you about the living room later -- if so, I hope he will be merciful about my housekeeping skills.

My computer "desk" is actually a folding table, but it's about the size of a normal desk. I also have a set of plastic drawers that sits where desk drawers would be. On one side of my computer is a pencil holder made of cork, that I've had since I was little; I think it once held a bottle of cologne. My page-a-day Dave Barry calendar sits beside it. There is a stack of papers and books sitting on the other side of the computer right now, which has gotten to the point that things keep falling on the floor if I look at it wrong. *sigh* I need to clean my desk.

On the wall above my desk is my diploma from undergrad. I suppose this should hang in my office at work, but I don't have a lot of wall space there. Also on the wall is a postcard-sized print of a famous icon (Our Lady of Sitka) and two cards with quotes on them:
"I long, as does every human being, to be at home wherever I find myself." -- Maya Angelou
and
"To create one's own world in any of the arts takes courage."
-- Georgia O'Keeffe
Those are the "serious" ones; I also have several comic strips and funny quotes on the side of the tall bookshelf which sits beside my desk (including one of the Scholastic promotional bookmarks from pre-DH release: "Is Snape good or evil?").

As I mentioned, there's a tall bookshelf next to my desk. There's a cool three-branched candleholder on top of it -- no candles in it at the moment, though. I need to buy new ones. In the same corner with the bookshelf is Espy's TV, with his Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo systems sitting on top of it. That rests on a little sewing cabinet that belongs to Mom. Beside that, near the window, is my purple shamrock, which is looking very sad about being in the house right around this time of year. Beside that, another bookshelf, painted blue to match the trim in the room (the walls are a pretty shade of sage green). A mirror hangs over the bookshelf. In the corner by the closet is a pile of beanbag chairs for players of aforementioned game systems. On the wall behind me, in front of the other window, a huge rack holding more unhappy houseplants. I can hardly wait until it's warm enough to put them back outside. In the other corner, a card table holding two sewing machines and a lot of sewing-related clutter. Next to that, a coat rack, then another bookshelf. That takes us to the door, and next to the door on the other side is my desk, so we're back where we started. This completes the tour of my study, which is very crowded for a small room!

Mar 6, 2009, 8:14 pm

Well, as usual, I'm sitting on my fuchsia beanbag chair, and typing on the puce keyboard which matches the computer monitor. To my left is a Japanese-style screen that has platypuses and turtles painted on it. To my right there is a lavender-colored large stuffed griffin (named schnitzel), which has a cat sleeping on it (of course). Next to the stuffed griffin is a froggy umbrella (I really need to put that away). Behind me is a bookshelf overflowing with books, which has piles of books surrounding it. I'm afraid that someday all of that will fall on me as I sit at the computer. On the computer desk, I have some books, a half-filled cup of coffee, and some bubble wrap.

... OK, not really. The truth is I see exactly what JP sees when she's on HE (well, not exactly, but you get the idea).

13jugglingpaynes
Mar 6, 2009, 10:31 pm

...except she sees it with more near-sightedness than I do. :o)

I don't like to observe what is around me, because then I notice the empty oatmeal box in front of the encyclopedias that my youngest was using for her pet spider (which has since escaped. Sorry, LadyN). I also notice the Christmas mug that managed to not get put away with two candy canes sticking out of it. And then there is the pile of papers underneath my monitor from the many charities I've donated to, who would like me to donate again...

That's as far as I plan to look right now.

I started reading this thread this morning and decided I wasn't going to look up as the place was a bit of a mess and there was no way that I was going to post what I could see. So any way, Mr A for first time I can remember says "he is going to do some cleaning..." 30 mins into it he's looking out the window and I stupidly say 'why don't you go down the beach, I don't mind'. All of a sudden there is a whirlwind in the lounge room and he was gone. Unforunately the whirlwind didn't take the dirt away with him :().

So anyway! I'm looking at a lovely clean place from my beautiful white suede lounge (I've removed the cat scratched cover for mending and cleaning) and I can't see the cat scratched corner from where I am ; ).

I've lit candles, the ocean is to my left and while I can't see it I can hear it, and I have a glass of champagne.

Well, usually what I see is as follows:

I'm sitting at my light brown desk. There are 2 books to my left and a globe. Then on my right I have a mouse and a desk lamp. There are also random little articles on my desk such as cell phone, camera, glue, pencils, scissors, calculator, etc... Then to the left of my desk is a music stand and a bookshelf with books (no, duh!) and picture frames and little porcelain dolls. To the right is my bed with its pink kitty comforter. On my bed, there is Pamfilo the yellow tiger, a pink gorilla, Tigger on my pillow, Grunon the teddy bear, Yomiko the other teddy bear, Nestor the raccoon, Black Beauty the horse, Dopey the dwarf, and Lily the cat (she of course is not stuffed ;P) Oh, and usually there's a book on my bed, which currently is The Lightning Thief. Oh, and I can see my tall floor lamp, and my webcam on the windowsill, and I can see the sky and a tall pine tree in my neighbour's backyard. And ya, apart from a few posters, that's about it.

Oh, the lovely minutiae: I sit in an overstuffed dark brown leather rocker/recliner with a folding tray table in front of me, on which rests the laptop and a mouse because I hate the touchpad thing and have disabled it. Counterclockwise from here: another folding table with notepad and remotes and pens and scissors and magnifying glass and work-related papers such as contracts. Barrister's bookcase with reference books and children's books. Lamp table with a backscratcher on it. Humidifier (running) and electric heater (unplugged--used when I'm afraid I might run out of heating oil). Chair with afghan over it, two windows behind it. Boxes of books, including the BookMooch books. Painting of irises on the wall, given to me by the artist.

Doorway to office, which I mostly use to store the books I sell online. Through this doorway I can see windows that show me the house across the street and trees and sky. Straight in front of me, TV/VCR/DVR/DVD player/Gameboy. Bookcase with more of the books for sale, plus assorted crap: flashlight, DVDs, candles, picture of my late beloved dog Charlie.

Doorway to bedroom, doorway to bathroom; extra office chair with RH unabridged dictionary on it; stereo system sitting on a cabinet that holds LP records. Library cart with books about colonial American history on it. Mirror on wall and two framed posters of medieval history conferences I attended.

Door to stairway to upstairs. Little bit of wall with three small drawings of places in Oxford. Behind me, open doorway to kitchen/dining area. Next to me, folding table with water/soda/tea/coffee, and some books; next to that milkcrate with books to list online; next to that fabulous dictionary stand with work on it that I'm ignoring. Pair of shoes and pair of slippers on the floor.

Lot of stuff in a room not that big, but I have to say that I love love love the layout of my house. Everything is convenient.
