The Venice Adriana - in which a gay groupie of a prima donna gets a job with his idol, witnesses high culture and gay culture alike, and continues his quest for the ultimate recording - a recording, rumoured lost, of his idol's performance in Cilea's "Adriana Lecouvreur" in La Fenice: the legendary "Venice Adriana".
Absolute must-read for fans of Venice, Maria Callas, gay culture or those who possess the sort of opera-obsessive mind which delights in random details. (Quick test: there's a character called "Ercolani" in this book, who's evidently a stand-in for Pier Paolo Pasolini. If your brain immediately responded with "Ercolani - that's a singer of minor roles on many of the Callas recordings!" then this is a book you'll appreciate.)
