Best Beer for Reading a Fantasy Novel?

I have finally started reading Terry Pratchett. I know, it took me a while to get there. I was just wondering what kind of beer would be best to savor while reading Guards! Guards!. It has to be something hearty, like a stout I think. Also, I'm pretty sure I need to drink it out of a pewter mug to get the full effect. What are some of your pairings? Or what drink do you choose when discussing with others?
