BN: I didn't make it to the gym today. Oh well. I've been 3 times this week.

GN: Its been a nice day and we've just started to get the kittens weaned. First day and its going messily so far!

GN: My hubby and I drove up to my sister's school (about 40 miles N of us) and surprised her at the school carnival, which was fun! We then went downtown and had fun knocking about the shoppes. I just love small town downtowns that are still vibrant!
GN: The Yankees are currently losing to the Indians 20-4 in the bottom of the 6th!!!! :op
BN: Tomorrow isn't second Saturday...oh well, at least it isn't Monday.

good news/bad news: My garden is distracting me from...just about everything.

GN: Husband and I have a car again! :) It's another Corolla, but green instead of blue and an '02 instead of '98. And, of course, not smashed. Now the decrepit truck can go back to its semi-retirement until it is absolutely needed again. Or until it finally dies for good.

BN: I had to miss running a half-marathon with my mom, dad, and sister (Megan) to go get the car today. We all love to run together so I am sad to have missed out.

I missed that about the Yankees grk! Babe Ruth must be cursing them for the new stadium. I know half of my family is. My uncle called about tickets and the cheapest seats available were $300.

JP - the prices I've been hearing about for Yankees tix are simply ridiculous! Some news report on the radio early last week said some tix were going for as much as $2500!! As a Boston fan, I'm rather gleeful about yesterday's loss, although it isn't like I have much to be gleeful about with my BoSox...and we don't have a new stadium curse to blame our woes on.

GN: My husband is making scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and pancakes for breakfast!
BN: We're playing hooky from church to enjoy our leisurely morning at home.

You're right that ticket prices are ridiculous. But there are nutty people willing to pay it, so the price stays. If only everyone would stop going so that prices could be more reasonable for all sports and concerts and such. Movie theaters too.

Glad to hear we aren't the only ones, lefty! I'm happy we decided to have a leisurely morning at home, as I'm having fun getting going on making thank you cards for my upcoming baby showers. :o)

I agree that so long as people continue to pay ridiculously high prices, there won't be an incentive to bring them down. I heard recently that although movie theaters haven't seen as steep a drop in ticket sales as feared, concession sales are plummeting, which I think is good, as we used to spend well more on concessions than we did to see the movie!

Nooo. It was her nice friend so I felt bad for if I were to get mad. I knew she thought I'd be upset about it. I took Tipi to a sink and tried to wash it off but it's no use. She's going to have a blue line down her right back leg for a while. I'm told it's Tipi's fault because she walked in front of someone writing with the marker on gift wrap. I suppose it's better than having whiskers cut off. That sounds like it would be painful.

Yay! K's back! :) Sorry about Tipi though. I'm sure it will grow out soon.

Grk, no kidding about concessions! We very rarely ever get anything so it would be nice if they did lower prices. We might consider food then.

BN: This week is going to be full of dresses again. The last prom in the area is May 16 and there are only a couple on May 8, so I am really hoping that the beginning of May will be the end of the craziness!

I've been a school librarian for 12 years, and believe me, the word he wrote is actually pretty tame to some I've seen. Last year a 4th grader wrote REALLY bad words about her teacher (!) inside brand new library book, AND signed her name to it! She tried to blame another kid with the same name, but she was busted...spent a day or two in the office I believe. And her mom had to pay for the book. And mom had to admit that her daughter could possibly not be the angel she thought she was.

I averaged about 50 lost/damaged and unpaid books every year at that school. Usually the kids moved w/o giving notice,never to be seen again. I'm at a new school this year, and so far have only lost 4 books.

Well done MrA, you win a reprieve from teasing* for 24 hours.

SN (Strange News): Knick Knack (the female orange cat) has built a nest. Apparently, she has been stealing dry palm leaves, and dragging them over to her basket on top of the refrigerator. Right now she is settled quite comfortably in the basket, with palm leaves sticking up around her. I've always said that she is an odd cat.

Lol, that's funny cat! My cats tend to do strange things too...oh but I remember that one time when we still had Wilma that she brought back a live bird home. My mom tried to release it outside but the stoopid bird flew right back in and my mom and I were running around in the house trying to catch it for about 15 mins. Finally, we managed to let it make its way out, and then Wilma was really angry at us.

Once you meet one Fred or Spot, you've met them all.)

rissa - Thanks for the update. I was actually thinking about you at lunch today wondering how you've been feeling, as I know you're starting to get close! I can't believe I'll be 30 weeks on Friday...don't know how you and MEM feel, but the past few months have flown by!!

GN: I went to a fundraising luncheon for the local food bank today known as Empty Bowls, and got an awesome handmade pottery bowl that comes with your donation/ticket. Local potters, both professional and students, donate the bowls, which symbolize the countless people worldwide whose bowls are empty. Local restaurants donate soup, salad, bread, and dessert. We went on the early side, and by the time we left, people were backed up waiting for seats it was so well-attended! All very, very cool.

#86: That's wonderful to hear. I work for a non-profit and we run a lot of food pantries. Our big fundraiser is coming up in 2 weeks and in all the stress of preparing for it (and knowing I'm going on vacation right before!) I do lose track of what it's all for. I need reminders like that to keep me grounded.

#75 MsDonna, they are going to keep me on serving. My boss the other day asked if I wanted to go back to cashier, and I was like, "No. Not really." So as far as I know, I'll be a server for awhile.

Good News: I was able to cut some triangles out for my quilt. But then I had to go to work.

86: 30 weeks is about when I really started to realize how much I still had to get done before the baby. I feel a little better now, some of my friends surprised me with a baby shower, and now I have most of the stuff I will need for the first couple of days at least.

The release of Jasper Fforde's Shades of Grey, originally due for publication summer of 2008, and then June 2009, has been changed again.

Good news (U.K.):
This isn't so if you live in the UK.

Bad news (U.S.):
Those in the US have to wait till December 29, 2009 to get it in hardcover, a date which also happens to be nine days before the UK gets it in paperback.

I'm sorry, JP! At least it's not part of the TN series, hmm?

Tipi's poor lower jaw is sore again. She gets kitty acne, something I hadn't known existed.

She again shows no sign of pain from it. I'm going to get her some Stridex pads after work, the vet's recommendation. (Sounds crazy, right?)

BN: Due to a lack of decent calculations on my part, my old hammock doesn't actually fit on the stand (the hammock is too big).
GN: We picked up an inexpensive one at Wal-Mart that does fit. It's not quite so luxurious, but it does the trick.

GN: The weather was a-maz-ing today!!!
GN: We're having a sleepover for my birthday at my house tomorrow! And we're watching Seventeen Again at the movie theater.

BN: I went to the optometrist yesterday and he told me I was a bad girl. lol, well those weren't his exact words, but my left eye has gone from being farsighted to nearsighted and my right eye has gone up by like 1.4 or something (which is bad.)
GN: He didn't tell me to stop being on the computer or reading books, something my dad said he would. He just said that every 30 mins, to look into the distance for 1 min, and then get back to reading. I've had the kitchen to myself the last couple of days so I've been able to really cook, not just microwave something or cook for five minutes. It's been really nice being able to cook anything I want and without going around someone else's schedule.

As of tomorrow night this is over. It's really hard to eat or prepare any meals here with the table full of laptop and newspaper, and with my grandparents using up the small kitchen for their breakfast anywhere from 7am-2:30pm, lunch 11am-4:30pm, and dinner 3-11pm. :(

Most of the herbs could probably go out as well, but I still haven't decided how I want to arrange that bed.

BN: It came back with a vengeance. So I am taking the slightly odd road and have decided I'd give it a while before dosing him with meds again so that his body could fight off whatever it is this is. BN: A bad set of storms is getting ready to come through. We just got an email from our admin to review our tornado procedures. I have recess duty today, and we're going out in about 20 minutes. Hopefully we'll be okay, but it's not raining yet. The storms are hitting Tulsa, OK right now. That's about 1 1/2 hour drive from us. Who knows how fast the storms will get here. It's really important for the 2nd grade teachers to know when things like this is coming since we're on the 2nd floor with 325 students.

KIK! No we get tornados or tornadic type weather pretty much October to early June.

ETA: Duh! Check in. Recess was fine, but you can see the clouds moving through from the south and clouds moving through from the northwest. Not good as far as tornados are concerned. When northern air and southern air meet it can cause the rotation that we're not looking forward too. It's rather dark outside right now, but still not raining. I offered to use my ATM card to pay for something for a family member who five days later still hasn't paid me back. I think they plan to go on a trip in two days without doing so first, which upsets me that they didn't say so in the first place. I wouldn't have done it because I can't afford to.

k, not something to see the doctor about yet, any time I get sick it hits me in the tonsils and it gets hard to swallow. I can manage Orange Juice and soft foods, water is very painful right now though. there's a nasty cold going around, so that seems to be what it is.

GN: A friend I lost touch with twenty years ago found me on Classmates.com and also is on Facebook. Since I knew her, she got married and had three sons and sounds like she's doing great. She was a wild child back then and now is all respectable!

BN: I'm diabetic and just found out :-( I know it's treatable/manageable, but it is not fun.

GN: I get an all gender class next year! This is really cool. As of right now I will be getting all girls, but if 2 more teachers volunteer then I could get all boys. I originally wanted all boys, but after my intensive research this past summer I don't really care which gender I get.

Bad News: Starting next week, I have to take an ECA (End of Course Assessment) for my AP Comp class. But it's the same test for all juniors who are in English (which means I have an unfair advantage) and it's also worth half of our final (the test). Now it wouldn't be that bad if we had something to prepare us, but we don't. My teacher doesn't even know what is on the test, so she can't prepare us at all. So I'm going to write an email or call my principal or something to try and change it. Because it's just unfair for all juniors to take the same test (no matter what level they are in) and also make it worth half of the final when we don't have anything to help prepare us for it. stupid people.

BN: I feel like crap. My head feels like it's going to explode, my throat hurts, I'm coughing, my nose is running. Last night it was really bad. It's all in my head (that sounds like a good rumor). I know it's just allergy stuff. I need to find something to eat since I haven't eaten since lunch yesterday. I need to be here today because we have a program tonight. If I don't feel any better by the end of the day, I'm getting a sub. I hate getting ready for a sub.

#177 MEM: Yep public school. It's part of a huge action research project our district is doing. We can have same gender classrooms if we offer mixed gender classrooms (which we already do), and have the parents sign off on whether they want to be part of the project.

There's lots of research on upper elementary, middle school, and high school same gender classrooms. Studies show that both boys and girls academic scores increase at a greater rate than mixed gender classrooms. There are also different strategies to use with all male and all female classes. There have been a few studies with lower elementary classrooms, but not enough to have solid evidence of the research. I teach 2nd grade, and it will be the starting point of the same gender classrooms. They will also have classes in 3rd-5th grades, selected middle school and high school classes.

re: gender separation classrooms

I've read in some articles that traditional teaching methods are better for the way most girls' brains work but aren't great for boys' so I could see the benefits of splitting the kids up. Also based on my own kids, I will go so far as to say that *I* think younger boys and girls process stuff differently.

My friend found me on classmates.com but we didn't go to school together--we worked together in a store in Virginia and then when I was accepted to UCLA, she decided to make the trip with me. We spent two and a half weeks going to CA by way of Florida--great trip. We camped sometimes and stayed with friends sometimes. Slept on the hood of the car one night and couldn't believe the stars in the sky over Texas.

I'm trying to get rid of a bunch of photos from my camera to make room for taking more pictures this weekend. I'm finding all kind of cute pictures of the kitties.

GN: Had a lovely evening out last night. I took my friend to watch Romeo and Juliet at Shakespeare's Globe for her birthday. However, after that I went to a charity show in the West End and didn't get to bed until 4a.m.

BN: I am ridiculously tired and working 10 til 10 today.

KIK! Oh no!

Well, we were in my favorite shop and Mr A was carrying my handbag (I can't carry anything heavier than a duck) and another handbag that I was thinking about buying. This huge weird looking guy was in the shop and I initially thought he worked there as he kept on looking at 'us'.

So I'm there busily looking at the bags and then I feel what I thought was someone blowing on my neck. I turn around and MrA is standing there looking all freaked out saying that's what he did to me nodding toward the huge guy. I'm all like what are you talking about crazy man, he's starts saying again he blew on my head. Being the supportive wife I am, I try my hardest to stifle my laughter so as not to alarm the big weird guy. The weird thing is, I can understand that he might have thought MrA was gay because he was wearing a handbag, looked very cute (clean and neat) and was pretending to be very interested in which handbag I should select. But the big weird looking guy came back in the shop with who I assumed was his wife and child.

It was all very puzzling and I think it was possibly one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time. I have to admit I was looking around to see if there was a camera in case it was a candid camera type of moment.

GN: I spent over an hour and a half at the gym this morning, running 8 miles. One of my Facebook apps is a running log, which I've been using since Sept. 07. I'm close to 300 miles and I want to hit that amount by the end of school next week.

GN/BN: I'm going to spend the rest of the afternoon sitting outside in the sun, tanning and studying for finals.

Best News: The new machine is a Husqvarna/Viking and I am absolutely in love with it. The model is called Sappire 870. It has so many awesome features I don't know if I will ever learn them all! :D

I got a Viking nearly 10 years ago, love it. Didn't buy top-of-the-line b/c I just couldn't justify to my husband why an $1800 sewing machine was necessary (!), but it has features/gizmos I still haven't used. It's been used to make many dance costumes for my kids, a band banquet formal, curtains, and many many baby quilts. Much better than my poor old Singer that just gave out.

GN: Offer papers have been signed and now I wait...

GN: I bought myself new hiking gear, SCOTLAND HERE I COME!!
BN: Allergies are still being mean to me :(

It took about a week to talk my husband into it. But since I do alterations and custom sewing for people and lots of quilting, I was able to justify a more pricey model. What I loved about the Sapphire was the extended throat -- there are 10 inches to fit material to the right of the needle. :D

Mandy, good luck again with the offer business!! I am so excited for you guys! And hiking in Scotland sounds absolutely amazing!

BN: At 3:00 this morning I woke up to go to the bathroom. I felt something pop. I wasn't sure if it was my ear or my jaw, but I was in pain. My ear, jaw, and throat were throbbing. So I laid there for an hour, waiting for my mommy to get up (she gets up at 4:00 to get ready for work). She had me take some tylenol and put a heating pad on my ear. About 6:00 my ear felt a little better, so I got ready for work. Then I laid back down in the chair with the heating pad until it was time to leave. It feels a little better right now. As long as I don't take a deep breath, yawn, etc... I talked to our district nurse and she thought it sounded like my ear drum had ruptured. She didn't have her kit with her so she told be to go down and have the school nurse look in it. Sure enough there's blood in there. I've got an appointment at 10:30 (my time). Hopefully I will be able to get in and out quickly because I have to pick the kids back up from specials at 11:15. I also have recess duty today, but a neighbor teacher said she would take it for me.

Oh kirby! That sounds awful! I'm so sorry that happened and hope it heals soon.

Yep. Ruptured ear drum. Lots of blood. He says I will be in quite a bit of pain while it heals. He also put me on a very strong antibiotic (which wasn't ready at the pharmacy yet). I've got one more pill to take from the Z-pack that I got for my sinus/ear infections. I'm going to go ahead and take that since I don't have the antibiotic yet. It shouldn't hurt anything.

Kirby that sounds horrible. :( I hope you get to feeling better soon!

GN: My class is about to take a community outing to the park! It's lovely and sunny outside. :D

Bad news: I'm not feeling to well today. The pollen count is high in spite of the rain we've been having. I also made a poor decision to fight poison ivy single handedly. I now have a nice mark on my forearm from it.

Good news: I don't have to water any of the plants I just put in my garden.

Good news: Both the front yard and the back yard are mowed. I snatched the time in between rain showers to do it. All of my neighbors seem to be doing likewise: I could hear at least three different lawnmowers up and down the street!

Good news: I'm working the afternoon/evening shift tomorrow, so I can rest and/or get things done around the house in the morning.

My news:
Dr. put me on some really strong stuff that I can't pronounce. It's part amoxicillian, clavulante, and potassium. Apparently it's a double dose of penicillin so the potassium is needed so it won't drain me completely.
Mom called when I was waiting for my perscription (another story) and said a friend of ours left a message for me. This friend is my mothers age, and she has a daughter who is about my brothers age. We're very close, almost like family. She was very vague on what the friend wanted. So I called her back and she asked what had happened (with the ear). Then she went on and on about how I need to see a specialist, and that she'll take me, and so forth.
So, I'll be taking care of some of that during my break today.

GN: The breakfast is over.
BN: I still have to deal with all the pledges we got.
BN: On the way back to the office an idiot almost killed me (doesn't understand right-of-way apparently).
GN: He didn't kill me.
BN: When I got back to the parking lot, my front bumper fell off.

As soon as I posted, I knew we were going to end up on the "plug the holes with M&Ms" trail. Ha ha ha!! Worked though... ;-)

Its a done deal! I am back to cashiering! yes I lost a little money but....no more constant cleaning, no more lifting heavy pieces of machinery, no more worrying about QA, more more plastic gloves or hairnets! I can wear jewelry again and fix my hair nice and wear makeup since it won't melt off my face anymore. My clothes won't smell like grease and no more cleaning and mopping at midnight! No more burns or cuts and no more dragon lady boss!

I've only ever seen the first Star Trek movie and it didn't do much for me. I don't think I even watched the whole thing. Perhaps I should give the other movies more of a chance. Can the new one be seen without knowing the story from the rest of the movies?

GN: Today was a field trip day! We went to another area school and did a track & field day, competing with the other LID classrooms in the vicinity.
GN: I should have time for a desperately-needed nap later this afternoon!

#341: This one is something of a prequel. We see Kirk and the gang in Starfleet Academy and on their first Tour of Duty. At least, that's what it looks like. It seems to me that as long as you have a basic idea of the Star Trek construct, who Kirk and Spock and all are, you will probably do fine. I'm more of an ST:TNG girl myself, but I'm still looking forward to this one. I'll let you know more once I've seen it.

GN: I'm finally caught up from my trip!
GN: I got new postage ordered for the rate change on Monday.
BN: I meant to do it on Tuesday but didn't have time, so we won't have the new stuff on time.
GN: We have some 1 cent stamps and some "Forever" stamps, so we should be okay for a few days.
BN: I'll have to check all the outgoing mail for awhile, I don't trust all of my coworkers to remember the change...some of them forget to put any postage on more often than they remember to stamp their mail.
GN: I have a draft email ready to be sent when I log in on Monday, so at least I won't have to remember to do that!

BN: So LT is working a little slowly right now, and will not go to group home pages. This is sad. Very sad.

GN: I'm definitely going to the movie tonight. I just bought my tickets.

Star Trek - not a prequel. Just got back from seeing it...twice. Really enjoyed it.

Good news: We finished reading The Last Olympian and it was AWESOME!!! I also noticed in the acknowledgements at the end that the author referred to it as the end of his first Camp Half Blood series. *waits for Rick Riordan to start the next series*

Ultimately, I guess I don't care what the Star Trek movie is, I just know I really really want to see it. The mere fact that J. J. Abrams did it is enough.

BN: Can't sleep. The dog woke me up because she wanted to go out, and then I couldn't get back to sleep because I was too hot, and my mind keeps running around all of the stuff I have to do and issues I have to deal with.
GN: No work tomorrow, so at least I don't have to worry about being groggy and unproductive all day. And I came in here to my computer and wrote down a plan of action for dealing with one thing at work (a group of rowdy kids who come in to abuse use our computers and rough-house every afternoon) so at least I'm getting stuff done. And now I just might have a little posting party, seeing as almost everyone else is asleep . . . .

Even though I never got to see the original TV show I thought it was great and highly recommend it!!

Good news: Two of my friends are planning b-day parties within weeks of each other.

Bad news: Last weekend when I went to the in between a nursing home and a hospital to see my great aunt, they had a big sign (with smiley faces!) saying that no one under 16 could go back because of the swine flu. :(

BN: I've been busy.
GN: It's now the weekend sooo, ya!
BN: On Wednesday I got hit right on the nose with a soccer ball. Weird thing is, my nose didn't even bleed! But then I thought I had dislocated my jaw cuz it was hurting.
GN: Turns out the pain went away and I didn't break my nose either!
JN: Tomorrow is the community band concert. I'm kinda nervous cuz I'm also gonna b presenting this duet with this guy in my class.

GN: Just spent the day shopping the outlets with my mom and sisters. Got some books :)
GN: Then hung out with the nephew, who started saying my name and Mandy's name!
BN: He's gone home and I don't know when I'll see him again.

GN: Star Trek didn't suck. In fact, it was really, really good.
GN: The guy who played Spock was awesome (and I'm *very* picky about the way Vulcans are portrayed)
BN: Want to watch it again, but can't until next week.

Good news: I got to do a lot of gift wrapping at work today, something I greatly enjoy.

More good news: The mysterious new store across from mine is now open and they have the most glorious looking clothes. I had to sneak in after work to check it out and ended up making a happy for pretty clothes but also happy for being a cheap purchase.

Bad news: I have been home alone in a mood unfit for company while my sister has her party.

Good news: After tackling many things I'd been procrastinating on I feel much better.

More good news: I also get to read now just before going to bed at a time that will be early for me and so I can get some much needed extra sleep at last.

362: I've never been much into blacksmithing or volcanoes, so probably not. But I am all nerd, which allows me to have an opinion on such things.

Bad News: One of the release mechanisms wasn't sliding... and it broke. So if there isn't a spare at the junkyard I'll have to order the part from Buick... meaning a couple weeks without my car... meaning I'll have to drive the big van we have around. grr

BN: Broke mom's rocking recliner Saturday night. In my defense, it must have been a long time coming. I sat down very gently and it broke. So I'm calling a repair guy today. Honestly, I'd rather give mom the $100 (or whatever) to put on a new chair. She's been wanting one for a while. We even went to look at new ones yesterday. I'll still call and see how much money it's going to be. You know what's broken? A tiny little rod the size of my pinky that sits between the frame and the rocker.

GN: My birthday is this week! I'm celebrating all week because it will be my last birthday. I will not celebrate any more after this one.

Yay!! Happy birthday week to kirby!!

GN: Suge arrives on Friday, (although she's in a flap about it.)
GN: My kitchen is now clean (apart from mopping the floor), as I got up at 7a.m to do it before work.
GN: I have some days off work coming up.
BN: I've done absolutely no excercise for quite some time.
BN: It's scheduled to rain all weekend.
GN: At least suge will get an authentic London experience for her first weekend!

#370 -- This is really odd. At times when you have said that you are doing really well with diet and/or exercise, I have been slacking. Now that I am doing better with keeping on track, you say that you haven't exercised for a while. Hmmmm . . . .

GN: Husband and I chaperoned the after-prom trip to King's Island on Saturday. We got a free trip to the park plus $40 spending money each. It's the first time I ever bought food in a park!

GN: I got to be with my family for Mother's Day! It was lovely. I hadn't been to see them in too long.

BN: I didn't get to sleep much over the weekend and I got a teensy bit behind on this week's dresses. Which mostly just means that's all I get to do tonight.
