Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the audiobook group but I have been browsing through old posts in the hopes of compiling a list of recommended audiobooks for my father for father's day. We have very different tastes, but since I'm a school librarian he seemed to think that I would be able to come up with a good list for him. His taste includes things like The Alchemist, The Name of the Rose, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, John Adams, The Da Vinci Code and writing by Janet Evanovich.

Some of the things I've considered recommending so far include: Motherless Brooklyn, The Coffee Trader, Kitchen Confidential, Water for Elephants and Into Thin Air.

Do these sound about right? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

"Motherless Brooklyn" has to be the Frank Muller reading, not the Steve Buscemi(?) one!

Along with that one, I always recommend The Ha-Ha by Dave King - fascinating audio experience as the protagonist is mute, so we hear his thoughts though no one in his world can.

I am also going to hesitantly (it's perhaps a tad gruesome) suggest Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn - incredibly suspenseful!

I haven't read about half of the books you listed (either that your dad likes or that you're recommending), but Water for Elephants was an excellent listen.

I also think he may be interested in The Historian, some of Michael Chabon's books, Cloud Atlas, or Everything is Illuminated - all of which have been great to listen to.

Thanks so much Seajack & Fyrefly98 for your recommendations! They are extremely helpful.

Seajack - yes, absolutely on the Frank Muller version of Motherless Brooklyn!
