Not a romance, but I'm currently working on Turn Coat which is the most recent Harry Dresden release. I'll be sad when I've caught up but at least then I can work on my romance novels I've had pileing up!

I'm just finishing up the second Victoria Dahl contemporary (Start Me Up) after reading all the great reviews on it, and the first in the series Talk Me Down. Honestly after all the hype on them, I'm not enjoying these books much at all. I normally read historicals but I do love a good contemporary now and then, but these are just a little too shallow for me. The characters appear to have no connection outside of the bedroom, and I find myself skipping past pages and pages of sex scenes only to find a few pages of story before another sex scene starts up again.

Lam -

That makes me crazy!! I want an emotional connection. A physical one is fine, too, but it's not what I think is the important part.

I am catching up with a lot of older books I bought at a book sale. I read Killjoy by Julie Garwood over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Today I finished Savage Thunder by Johanna Lindsey. I have the last book in that series waiting in the wings but I might read a mystery next.

Oh, I loved Killjoy.

adeptmagic, I did too. Now I will look for more of her romantic suspense.

Lam - I really enjoyed Talk Me Down - especially the scene where he leaves her those lovely photos of herself asleep. I thought that was really touching.

Of course, I've seen a lot of mixed reviews for it, so clearly it's not everybody's cup of tea. I hope you find something you enjoy more soon!

I definitely agree about that scene Caramel! But I guess I just wished that a couple of the sex scenes and sex discussions could have been cut in favour of more scenes like the picture one. Also, in both books I found the suspense subplots to be unnecessary and not particularly interesting. I will say however that I enjoyed Talk Me Down better than I am enjoying Start Me Up.

Oh well, you can't enjoy everything you read! :)

After Start Me Up, I think I might read Lorraine Heath's newest historical, Surrender to the Devil.

I'm still working my way through the Knight family series by Gaelen Foley. Right now I'm reading Alec's story, One Night of Sin, and then I just have one more before I'm done with this series. I've really liked them all so far.

I've finished Bound by Light, and enjoyed it a lot. I wish I had been able to read 'Flame before this, so I could read it in order, but too late now. Oops. Lol. Still, I really liked it.

Moving on to Redeemed in Darkness by Alexis Morgan.

I read An Innocent Bride by Betty Neels. It's amazing how her books still hold up after all these years.

I just got my copy of Nalini Singh's Branded by Fire!!! I'm super excited about this book but am trying to hold off reading it until Friday. I have a difficult time putting down a book and if I read a new book that I've really been waiting for on a work night, I race through it. I really want to enjoy this one.

So, I also got The Pirate Hunter by Jennifer Ashley today. I liked her last book and think this one will be a challenge. I don't think its a stretch to say that I hated this hero in the last book so this is going to be a challenge for me. I think I'll start this one today (and hide Nalini Singh's new book).

I just finished Julia Quinn's new book What Happens in London. I really liked it. I had liked Olivia Bevelstoke in The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever and she was a good strong character in this book and Quinn's usual brand of humor was appreciated. My review of this book is at http://gigisromancereviews.blogspot.com
I am now reading Loretta Chase's Don't Tempt Me. So far it is okay but not as good as some of her others

I just finished Ashworth Hall by Anne Perry and am about to start Cotillion by Georgette Heyer which arrived superfast from the library. I am very excited about reading it since it came with such high praise from so many of you.

reesa00 - I'm totally looking forward to Branded by fire, love Nalini's books.

I've just finished a book that turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I freely admit I didn't have high expectations as I read very little chick lit (I tend to read historicals, romantic suspense, or paranormals); plus I'd picked it up based (and this is going to sound terrible) solely on the basis of the log line on the cover "What if you woke up and your life was perfect?", but I thoroughly enjoyed Remember Me? by Sophie Kinsella.

I just finished Bending the Rules by Susan Andersen and I'm starting by Where There's a Witch by Madelyn Alt.

I just finished Bride of the Beast by Sue-Ellen Welfonder and I am so sorry to say that I was most disappointed with it. I do not even want to pick up another romance book. Unusual for me to feel this way. But I do enjoy more depth of character and plot and this one did not give it to me. Should I be surprised?

Finished up Bitten this morning, and I love it! I can't wait to read more books in Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. ;)

Moving on to the ARC of YA fantasy, Fairy Tale (formally knowns as Fairy Lust, just FYI) by Cyn Balog. I have high hopes for this one-- I've heard good reviews, and it sounds really good!

Enjoy,

I got Black Hills by Nora Roberts from the library & so far, I'm really enjoying it. I also got Linda Howard's new book, Burn: A Novel from the library - can't wait to start that!

This week I finished up The Private Diary of Mr. Darcy by Maya Slater (an ER book) which I thought just didn't have enough Elizabeth in it...

And I raced through The Domino Effect by Julie Elizabeth Leto - an extreme Blaze about an assassin investigating a possibly treasonous and definitely hot club owner in Chicago. It was definitely smokin', but I was a bit disappointed in the ending.

bookbeat-- You'll have to tell me what you think of Black Hills, I really enjoy NR's books, and this newest one looks really good. Love the cover, especially! ;)

DL-- Well, what can I say? You add to mine, I add to yours, it's a very symbiotic relationship, I think! LOL.

EDITED: Finished Fairy Tale, and I loved it-- great debut by a promising author! Can't wait to see what she writes next. ;) I'll be writing a review soon, but I can highly recommend it, especially to you, DL. ;)

Decided to switch for a moment from my paranormal/fantasy kick and work on some historical romances I got A YEAR AGO (used), so first up, For the Roses by Julie Garwood. ;)

I read Bending the Rules by Susan Andersen. Not my favorite of hers but still good. Now I've started Wish You Were Here by Lani Diane Rich. She's such a wonderful writer. I wish she wrote more straight romance. It looks like a lot of her books are more in the chick-lit vein, which I'm not particularly fond of.

(Edited to fix Touchstone.)

I finished up Gaelen Foley's Knight family series (all of them were excellent!) and started Her Only Desire by the same author this morning. This is the first book in a trilogy - and low and behold, it's a spinoff series of the Knight series. Looking forward to this one!

I just finished Practice Makes Perfect by Julie James and loved, loved, loved it! I'm bowled over by this author - another grand slam contemporary! Endearing, witty lawyerly characters, lots of snappy dialogue with a nod to Pride and Prejudice - a real winner - highly recommend!

I knew you would enjoy it ktleyed....it was fabulous. Probably my most favourite contemporary ever. And I agree Julie James is outstanding.
