koalamom's extra 999

Edited: Jul 17, 2009, 9:29 am

I will start this extra bit to my 999 challenge as soon as I finish all but one of the nine categories in my regular 999.

On this date I finished my sixth category - Civil War and have at the ready the last book I need for my Classics category and the second to last for Fantasy and the last for that category is also the third to a trilogy that the penultimate one is a part of - so that category is close to being finished.

My final category - Religious- has three books to go, which I will read by the end of 2009, but I felt the need to categorize what I am reading beyond the original 999 - I am like that and I was tired of marking by 100 Challenge with "here but not in 999"!!!

So by the end of the month I should be starting this - if not sooner.

Oh my only rule for this "extra" is that I read one book in each category and no restrictions after that and I am changing the ninth category to Biography.

This thread will only run until the end of the year and then I will do something new unless there is a new group like this for 2010 - then maybe I'll join that one.

I started this thread on 7/17/09 with only one book left on my original 999 and that one is sitting on my table to be read along with others - it's that kind of book, but there should be at least three books here before I finish that. They are easier to read and more fun, but I should be here exclusively by the end of the month.

How was Finger Lickin' Fifteen? I was very tempted to pick it up at the bookstore the other day but I was trying to be good and not buy more than the 4 books I had gone to the store to pick up.

I liked it - see my review on the books page - but then I have liked this series since I discovered it.

Looks like I managed to pick books of the same genre for the first three in this extra 999 challenge. I didn't plan it that way. These were all books that I had had on hold at the library for a while and they all came in at the same time - as did the fourth book entered here which is (will be) in the general fiction category. I say will be because at the time I wrote this note, I hadn't read it yet!

Here it is 7/22 and I have already added my fifth book to this thread. I am also about halfway through the last book of my original 999 Challenge. I shall have to start diversifying my reading, too.

I have 12 books here! I have almost finished a book for my General Non-fiction category but it got usurped by my daughter who wanted to read it while here visiting and since she has to go back next week, I can wait. I also have chosen the three books that will fill out the other three categories that are as yet filled with at least one book (as of this date), so I will soon meet this small challenge too - then I'll just keep adding here and see where I end up at the end of the year.

On my table as of this date are the two books that will complete the requirements for this challenge - one book in each category, but I will continue filling in here as appropriate to see how many I read. It is interesting to see which categories I lean toward - my comfort zone, as it were, but I do feel that I am getting out of that zone, at least just a little.

interesting how the two in biography as of 8/21 go together

Aug 25, 2009, 12:08 pm

I have now (as of 8/25/09) read at least one book in each of these nine categories. Now let's see how many others I will fit in here and will I get more than one in each category?

Definitely have a thing for Mystery/Crime novels!

Book number 24 entered this day.

24koalamom
Sep 4, 2009, 8:09 pm

25 books here as of 9/4 - 25 in less than two months

Do I read too fast or too much????

Oh, well, I enjoy reading and am not looking for knowledge.

maybe I should change of my 1010 challenge categories for next year to sci-fi that's not Star Trek, but I have so much of it on my book shelf right now - I could do a whole category of just that!

You're zipping along!

I always do. I always seem to have a book in hand. Like my mom - and my son.

28koalamom
Sep 19, 2009, 8:45 am

I see that all my sci-fi is Star Trek and I know there are other sci-fi authors to read! But then I put the Dune books in fantasy.

I need to read another Chldren's and Civil War book to make this look more rounded.

I have 32 books as of this date here.

29koalamom
Sep 27, 2009, 3:21 pm

I only seem to have one Civil War related book and it may stay that way until I start the 1010 in January. I have a few books but want to save them for the new year - not sure why, but ...

30koalamom
Sep 27, 2009, 3:22 pm

35 books read to date for this thread of mine, my extra 100 is up to 13

31koalamom
Nov 15, 2009, 4:01 pm

I have read at least two books in each of these categories and at this point I just plan on reading what I want. I'll save filling out categories for January and the 1010.

Sci-Fi, with one exception, is all Star Trek - trying to catch up to my son on these and I am getting close but there is a new one due this month - wonder if he'll ask for it?

35koalamom

well this sure shows where my comfort zone is, though I did manage to read at least 2 books in each category for this extra edition of my 999

36koalamom
Dec 6, 2009, 9:03 pm

and then there were only five - with three (again) on my table and 25 days to the end of the year

37koalamom
Dec 8, 2009, 8:30 am

didn't think I'd get to 5 general non-fiction titles in this extra 999 and never on one day!

38koalamom
Dec 12, 2009, 11:53 am

66 books listed here in 9 categories, each of which has at least 2 books in it

this is part of the 150 books that I have completed for 2009 - 66 beyond the original 999 challenge of 81 (9 in 9 categories) (the original 100 challenge didn't start until February while the 999 did)

I have read a lot - I always knew I read a lot, though at times it seemed I couldn't get through a book and to think I started readingin the lowest reading group in the first grade!

39koalamom
Dec 14, 2009, 11:06 am

books marked by a * are those read after I completed 150 on the 100 Challenge
