Dr. Fischer discusses the high risk strategy adopted by Generals Washington and Rochambeau in mid-August 1781, when the two men "gambled everything on a single choice."
The video displays Louis-Alexandre Berthier's superb map of the encampment of the allied American and French armies in lower Westchester in 1781.
Berthier went on to have a distinguished military career. He was appointed Napoleon's chief of staff in 1796. When Napoleon became emperor, Berthier was became a marshal of the empire.
