Gritwyrm (Sandragon)
Piebuddy (Cakefriend)

24JPB

Or, you could make up a name close to that famous website, and call yourself "PiePal" :D

25mrgrooism
Jul 15, 2009, 5:26 pm

#23 - I hate to admit to such things, but that's the only one that had me snickering while typing!

By the way, which do you find funnier, "Shut your piehole" or "Shut your cakehole." I've heard both, but somehow "piehole" is funnier to me!

26JPB
Jul 15, 2009, 8:18 pm

I agree on 'piehole' being funnier, but mainly because 'pie' is a softer word that 'cake'

A simple test is a "Homer-ism" -

Say, out loud..... "mmmmmmm ....... pieeeeeeeee......."
or
out loud...... "mmmmmmmm...... caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake"

Pie just SOUNDS better.

When planning for additions let's enlargen the Roomba closets and we could store the Floombas (or other bots) in there too. I also vote for a bigger spa/hot tub. A longer bar!!!!!!!! we need a longer bar! And does groo need a bigger refrigeration system for the PGGBs he makes for parties? Oh, the ideas....there are just so many of them.

More pools= more pool boys. Just a thought for the renovators... ;)

38mrgrooism
Aug 4, 2009, 1:38 am

Well, our architects for the renovation assure us that the Green Dragon will be much, much larger on the inside than the outside.

The architects include Antoni Gaudí, Leomund the Red, Cass Gilbert, MC Escher, Eileen Gray, Dr. Stephen Strange, Zaha Hadid, John Stewart, Frank Lloyd Wright, Albus Dumbledore, Andrea Palladio, George Bailey, Kenzo Tange, Dr. Fate, Adolf Loos, Ponder Stibbons, Stanford White, Leonardo DaVinci, Papa Smurf, Sir Christopher Wren, King Cheops, Baba Yaga, Frank Furness, Sabrina Spellman, Frederick Law Olmsted, and some guy named Mithrandyr.

39MerryMary

#38 May I nominate an additional member to our architectureal committee, namely Friedensreich Hundertwasser? His guiding principles were:
1. A straight line is an abomination.
2. Land used for buildings is stolen from nature, and must be returned.

Tonight I'll post a picture or 2 of Hundertwasserhaus, Vuienna (DV).

51hfglen
Edited: Aug 5, 2009, 3:41 pm

Loewengasse 41-43 / Kegelgasse 34-38, Vienna 3, Austria.

The building was designed as subsidised housing (Vienna 3 is NOT a classy area!) and is now distinguished as the block with the longest waiting list and the tenants least likely to move out in the whole city.

ETA precision to the address.

52scaifea

Wow, Hugh, those are amazing pictures - I want to live there!

53hfglen
Aug 6, 2009, 3:09 pm

Big Thank-you to Jennie and Amber! I'm tempted to post some more of that extraordinary place.

I also thought it would be fun to live there -- for about 15 seconds. It's in a relatively quite run-down inner city area (not as bad as the equivalent parts of Durban or Johannesburg or Nairobi, but nowhere near as nice as most any small town you can think of), and you have a permanent crowd of tourists rubbernecking around the building. And, subtropically spoilt as I am, with all due respect to mid-continent mid-latitude residents of first-world countries, I do like being warm in winter as well as summer!

But maggie, don't the blue boobies always look good to date? ;o)

#146 - I, for one, plan to do my best Marlon Brando imitation and yell out "Stellar! Stellar!" whenever it is you join. I think your plan was used by multiple people back when we were nearing 1,000 members. Or maybe that was out 150,000th post... I know things got more than just a bit crazy in here at the time.

I hate sounding like a dufus, but where are you seeing the actual total members? The closest thing I see is the 312 members online (as I type). Also, is dufus really a word? Spellcheck says no. Fascinating, Captain.

I guess I am a doofus. Or dufus, as both show up as misspellings. I've been following this thread for months thinking it was LT members and wondering how there could only be 2000 LTers. That's why grade school teachers always say that there is no such thing as a dumb question. Not my best Spock moment.

Oh! 1972 was a hell of a year for me. We moved to the sticks on the North Fork of Long Island (for which I am forever thankful) and I read The Lord of the Rings for the first time.

Where was that clam? I spend a lot of summer time out there (Orient), and cycle all around the North Fork. More enjoyable it sounds than your 1972.

166clamairy
Edited: Nov 17, 2009, 3:16 pm

In Southold. All those potato fields are now vineyards! I was cycling, too, but back and forth to South Harbor Beach on Little Peconic Bay. (I was too young to drive.) I would move back there in a heartbeat if I were independently wealthy. I really miss that saltwater smell and the sound of gulls.

Wow, you Summered out there? From Philadelphia?

167stellarexplorer
Nov 17, 2009, 9:12 pm

Good memory.

Yes, it is quite lovely there. Few cars or people, quiet marshes on peaceful bays... No, we didn't "summer" anywhere when I was a kid. We were so poor that -- well, we didn't summer outside the immediate vicinity.

I spend a good deal of time there now, having the good fortune to have married stellarwoman, whose father has a place out there.

168clamairy
Nov 17, 2009, 9:24 pm

Ah! I misread 'spend' as 'spent.' I don't make it over there as often as I would like to, sadly. My mother still lives in Southold and when we moved back to the East coast I swore I would be down there regularly, but it hasn't come to pass. (I love the wineries, too.)
