How many of you have read Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind? I just read it for the first time and I feel like I'm so full I don't know how to respond.
If you haven't read the book and plan to, stop reading this. :)
Obviously Scarlett is a detestable person. Rhett is hardly better, but he has several redeeming qualities. Like the fact that he was capable of loving someone like Scarlett. And the way he wanted to help and protect the few people he did love. The whole book, especially toward the end, I kept hoping Scarlett would change. How can anyone be so stupid? And when finally she was ready to love like a human being, her chance was gone.
Do you think she really does get Rhett back? (I mean as far as Mitchell intended. I haven't read Scarlett and don't intend to. I'd rather see the story as I see it--I hate when other people follow up other people's work. Anyway, from Gone with the Wind, how do you feel about Scarlett's chances with winning Rhett's love again? And what about the possibility of her ever regaining the friendship of the "Old Crowd" to share memories of their hard days?
